I took the Provost's Honors seminar with Dr. Reckmeyer and let me just say, this guy is brilliant. The work is intense, but you walk away learning so much at the end of the semester. Definitely a must-take instructor at SJSU.

Dr. Reckmeyer is an excellent instructor - he treats his students like adult contractors - you can negotiate the percentages for each grading assignment. He was always responsive to e-mails or office hours (or even staying after if you had night class). Def. one of the most respectful instructors at SJSU. Had him for 100W, 187, and 195.

The key is to go see him in office hours/workshop hours, do not hesitate or blow it off just because its optional class hours. Do not procrastinate.

Dr. Reckmeyer is a very nice and helpful professor. What I like most about his class is that students can choose what percentage they want for their assignments - new way of teaching.

Great teacher! Everything that is expected of you is clearly put in the syllabus. There is a group project that has several assignments that are done throughout the semester. The hmwk is not overwhelming and he is always open to help you if you ask. He lets you pick what % of your grade comes from the final exam, group project, and individual essay

Perhaps the worst experience of my academic life. I rec'd a decent grade, but I learned nothing and endured a whole lot of ego. Don't drink the kool-aid and run if you want to preserve your sanity and your GPA. You WILL be punished if your group work goes sideways.

EASY! we are college students he has his way of wanting a paper in a certain format so DO it his way not yours and you will be fine. NO TEST NO QUIZZES, this is an easy class. just an essay final and you choose what % u want it to be

Hes picky w/ formats but he gives examples. He makes the student pick a topic & then forms groups. If you have a good group it makes the class easier. If you have a group that doesnt get along then it will be difficult. His teaching methods are different but effective. He makes you expand your mind. I highly recommend taking a course with him.

This professor is extremely picky. If the formating is not exact, he will make you re-do the paper with-out even reading it! I got extremely frustrated in his classroom.

He can be very helpful when he is around but there would be times he would not hold class for weeks or he would have some social convention to attend. I wouldn't reconnmend him to students who really want to learn something. I still don't feel confident in my writing. I even asked another 100W professor for help with my report.

Very boring class and boring materials. However, the prof was a very nice and easy going guy. Lots of group work, but easy "do-able" stuff, so take him if you want to pass with at least a B. I hated the class, but loved my group and the prof. Will recommend.

Half of grade is based on group work. Every class requires a small group project. There is very little taught content and is more of a social experiment. If you prefer to be graded on your own work, or have atleast a B+ average, do no take this class.

Systems material was new and interesting. He wants critical thinking. Class is not traditionally structured, which may be a turn-off for some. I also took 100W from him and learned more about writing than I have from any other prof. I recommend him for all students, even those who aren't anth majors.

Highly recommended for 100w even if you are not an anthropology major. Course is completely focused on completing the assignments - 1 or 2 short papers (6-8 pages total), resume/cover letter, and terrm paper (12-15 pages). Most classes ended early and a few classes met just for submitting assignments. Very inexpensive texts for this course!

Reckmeyer is awesome! No midterm or final due - just papers. Didn't have to read the short texts. Has high standards, especially formatting, but is very helpful and flexible if you work with him.

Amazing and very interesting professor. A bit of writing is expected, but he made the classes so lively and interesting. We always were let out an hour early, and he let you decide what percentage you wanted to count each assingment toward your total grade.

He's an amazing instructor. I'm an Econ major and I took a class with him for a GE class, then when I saw that he taught the 100W I had to take him again. Make sure your ready to write though! There's tons of it.
