Horrible course. He's as good a prof as an to take it with. Note: I'd recommend Marriott, but Cherry isn't too bad at it either.

Yes he talks a lot, but if you can filter out what is BS and what is important, you can do VERY well. He repeats the important points of the course. If you go to tutorials for help (no one did but me), he will help you willingly. Never really had such a caring math prof at UW than Cherry. I'd take his class again.

Comment:
Unable to stay on topic. Hard to decipher what is important and what is not from his lectures. He assumes everyone is in his class to become a statistician and the marking is overly picky and the exams are too long.

Some people liked him, he just bored me. Didn't like his examples. Sometimes funny. Course was horrible. Avoid this course if you can.

Horribly wordy. This guy loves the sound of his own voice. He uses good examples, but his lecture style makes them painful to listen to. The course itself is boring, but I think Cherry would put me to sleep in an interesting course too. Terribly long assignments.

You write numerous emails to him, leave numerous phone messeges, he'll ignore them all. The worst professor I've come across in waterloo. Extremely "unhelpful", you go ask him a question and his answer is another question wtf! He's the sort of guy that would dissuade your interest in a course

Whenever someone asks him a question, he gives them a "you're an idiot" look. He is overly verbose but at the same time his main goal seems to be to fit in all the material rather than teach.

marking of assignments is very unclear. they are worth 10 but there are usually more than 10 questions, and I THINK as long as you have 10 correct, you'll get 100%. (ie: you're not necessarily penalized for wrong answers, only rewarded marks for right answers)

A pretty good prof. He explains most concepts quite clearly. However, he talks too long on the articles, which makes me very sleepy. one tip: DON'T miss his lecture on Least Square, his lecture note is WAY better than the course notes. I would recommend to take his class.

I believe he is a good prof. However, his notes are somewhat useless and disorganized.(lots of articles). also, way too much homework, like 17 questions per ass't! Insane!

He made everything in the course very clear in his explainations. The course is not very exciting. Cherry used good examples from the media to help explain the material.

Although he is a bit fussy and sometimes long-winded, he is a very effective prof. The frequent examples of stats in the news put the course in perspective. He is good at making what is otherwise a dull subject relevant to everyday life.
