Yolande is a strong and passionate philosophy professor who encourages students to think and challenge themselves. She is an engaging speaker, funny, and very honest. She sometimes came across as a bit blunt, but I found this to be a good thing since it would clearly emphasize her points and keep the class on track. I recommend taking her class!

Easiest class I have ever taken. I think grade 8 had harder courses for me. Very insightful lectures and great in class debates. Group work every single class. Short little quiz every other week on the readings. GPA BOOSTER. Would definitely take again :D

Aww I love Yolande! Such a character. Behind her blunt persona is a kind and fair woman! Her jokes are unintentional and hilarious. I really enjoyed class. If you read the short readings every week, and take a couple notes, you can easily answer her questions. She really makes you think hard about matters in our world. So fascinated now! GPA BOOST

GPA booster. No essays in this class. You have to do the readings before you come to class. Every class you have to write a summary of the assigned readings. Quizzes are worth 40% and can be kind of tricky but easy if you read the piece 2-3 times. Lots of small group discussion. Participate once a while as participation is 10% of your mark. Easy A

I cannot say enough about how great Yolande is! I'm eager to be in another class with her, even though I'm not majoring in philosophy. Bottom line: do the reading, don't give opinions, but rather, reasons and you'll do fine.

I took both her ethics and her biomedical ethics classes at Cap. She only offers up her own viewpoint occasionally and is very good at showing many different sides of the coin. She got me interested in philosophy and I still see her about my other philosophy courses because I enjoy her approach the most.

Yolande is a good professor. I found her to be clear about her expectations and fair with evaluating differing points of view. You have to show up for class and I honestly recommend doing the assigned readings at least 2-3 times as the quizzes are not super easy.

I did a BA in Philosophy. Yolande was the first analytic philosopher I was exposed to. If you learn to think and write in the manner she teaches you will learn the skills required for upper division philosophy courses at university. One of my favourite teachers from my undergrad.

One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. No midterm or final or papers. Only the one portfolio assignment and weekly multiple choice quizzes out of 5. The class can be painfully boring at times but is really easy to understand. Yolande is a very nice woman, although unless you talk A LOT in class, she will have no idea who you are.

Painfully boring. Very patronizing and biased. Puts words in your mouth and blathers on and on and on. I didn't do the readings but still passed the quizzes. Do not take if you like talking and are sleepy in the morning.

A really excellent teacher with interesting topics and discussions. Yolande explains all sides of the argument. There's one quiz a week and your two lowest don't count. No midterms or finals! There IS a portfolio. I'll be taking another course from her in January.

Ridiculously boring, she goes on and on without letting people speak their minds. she constantly interrupts people's opinions and her "tests" are tricky and only out of 5 but worth 60% of your grade..... DONT TAKE IT you will hate philosophy after having her

Constantly cut students off and twisted what they said. Not helpful at all. Even though she refused to tell us her views it was obvious what they were because she swayed conversations in favour of one side.

She has a bit of knowledge but she is very arrogant, and if she feels like you are not kissing up to her, she will try to humiliate you. She interrupts students. If you are outspoken and like to speak your mind, don't take her class.

Okay the class seems weird at first but it's good if you want to learn philosophy and you want a good mark. You learn the basics about ethical philosophy. Weekly tests are kinda hard. The in class writing is okay though. You basically use your in class writing as your final "paper" which is actually a portfolio of all your in class writing. I learned a lot and I got a good mark. DO ALL YOUR READING!! I didn't!! I could have had an A+. The weekly reading needs to be done. Takes about one hour.

Talks somewhat slow but a great person and class. Read and Study and you will get a very high mark. Somewhat difficult Quiz every week, but no exams. Majority of this class is group discussions so be prepared to speak your mind. Awesome class nevertheless.

Great teacher, she as a person is simply hilarious. She moves around like a muppet and has the voice of Mr. Mackey/Sarah Palin/Bill Cosby/MadTv's Stuart's mom. Interesting readings and all you do are a quiz every week and writing that you submit at the end of the semester.

This woman knows her stuff. Interesting range of lectures and topics covered. Came into the class with little to no knowledge of philosophy and left very intrigued. And as mentioned in other reviews, this class is a definite GPA booster! Practically no work required. Just show up and do the readings!
