She speaks in riddles, makes the class teach itself with reading she will give you the night before the class and give 5 papers that she makes up reasons why the paper aren't good. For example she told me that "you need argument" for a paper that was just comparing and contrasting, NOT AN ARGUMENTATIVE PAPER. Do yourself a favor and pass on her

She is awesome. The class wasn't very stressful and I learned a lot. She's easy to talk to and really helpful if your are interested in grad school and finding research opportunities. Make sure you know her power points and you'll do fine.

She is an awful professor. The class was so boring; we watched japanese soap operas in every single class. She makes attendance mandatory; she doesn't give you any sick days. Her lectures are very confusing and not helpful. She is an extremely hard grader; she will rip your paper apart. She does read over drafts and is relaxed about deadlines.

Is Pro-Japanese and Anti American.Makes you do a lot of reading and is a harsh grader. Thinks that all you have time for in your life is her class. When she assigns you a paper she makes you do draft after draft, and keeps extending the deadline.She is a nice lady, but she does laugh in your face when you express an idea that she doesn't agree with

I agree with everyone else. She is an extremely harsh grader, dismissing basically everything you write and managing to insult you in the process. During class discussion, she will pester you for comments, and upon receiving them, literally laugh out loud and basically call you a moron. Taught outside of course description for 1st month and a half.

This professor has no idea how to teach a class. I'm in History of China and Japan since 1800 and by midMarch the class has not strayed from Japanese history. She shows Japanese samurai soap operas for up to half of the class period and tries to pass them as accurate fact, and grades both hard and unfairly. Would not recommend.

I do not recommend taking her as a professor. She is unclear, unhelpful, really does not teach a freaking thing in class, and grades among the harshest I've ever had. I took this for core credit, lady! I'm not a Japanese History Major!

she gives ALOT of reading homework, and the material is pretty boring. She herself is a very nice woman, but she asks for alot of your participation in class. She seems every interested in what shes teaching. No tests so far, but shes tough on grading papers.

She is confusing as a lecturer (contradicts herself), and has all the hallmarks of a new Ph.D.: she assigns graduate a level workload to undergrads. I don't mind working very hard and I had straight A's, but couldn't clear better than a B- from her. Even when you can prove to her that she is factually wrong, she won't back down.

She is terrific. Be prepared to immerse yourself in Asian culture, society and history. You will have to read; you will have to write (a lot), and you will have to participate in class. The hard work is ultimately rewarding; this class experience will open you up to ways of thought never before taught in the West. If looking for easy A, not for you
