Incredibly smart and nice guy. Like him a lot. Very tough though. Lectures incredibly fast and is all notation with zero introductions. He wants everyone to pass and get the topics but the class is based upon a book he wrote himself. There are no other sources that are anywhere close to what you cover. Tests are on the "easier" topics.

In class its like you are looking at a foreign language with all of the proofs and theorems he does (which you never even have to use), but if you can start to catch on to what he is doing in the actual examples it actually is super easy. Only 2 tests that were 2 of the easiest math tests I have taken since middle school, no joke. highly recommend

Yves is an absolutely amazing professor! I have taken him for Calc3-4 and I am planning on taking every class I need through him. His lectures(proofs) can be hard to follow, but he moves on into the examples and it all falls into place. Yet, you will probably need to spend time outside of class learning. Grading is EXTREMELY fair, generous even:)

Theory-heavy, sometimes not enough motivation or examples, but fairly good teacher overall; helpful in class but not always the most clear, some things are harder than necessary. Gets graded stuff back the next day. Help in his office has always been almost literally useless though. Seems like he's just trying to get you to leave the entire time.

One of the best professors that the math department has here at Eastern. If you aren't in class you won't pass however, his lectures are crucial to the tests. Do the homework, show up, make him know who you are, and he will make sure you pass.

He has a slight accent but is easy to understand. The guy's definitely a mathematical genius. He gives great feedback and partial credit on everything. Show up, take notes diligently, and go to his office hours you will pass this class. At the end of the quarter, he will curve your grade if you've put in the effort. Yves Nieves is the bees knees.

Dr. Nievergelt is an incredibly passionate and brilliant man that teaches so fast occasionally you can feel the wind blowing in your hair. Rather than assigning lots of assignments, you'll get one a week. He grades extremely fairly (generously, I'd say) and throws in just enough humor to surprise you. Tests are fairly easy if you do the homework.

Dr. Nievergelt teaches so fast that even the most focused students get lost, however his advantages outweigh his disadvantages. Nievergelt's a very bright and energetic mathematical mastermind that assigns a few assignments that pack-a-punch v.s. assigning web assign every single day like other professors. His exams are cake if you do the homework

Extremely hard. Talks WAY too fast, answers his own questions, and expects his students to pick up a concept the first time it's given to them with ease, and doesn't understand when they can't figure it out that fast.

Dr. N. is a great lecturer. He manages to push his students quite hard while simultaneously making himself absolutely accessible. The work seems unreasonable, but he will bend over backwards to help you, and you'll come away far ahead of your wildest expectations. Do yourself a favor and take his classes. You won't regret it.

His tests were super hard so were the homework handouts he gave. I liked the way he formatted tests but he makes the questions really difficult and they do not look much like the homework problems at all. His notation is also different which is where I had to spend a bunch of time, but he's a ridiculously SMART dude.

His in-class examples consist of theorem proofs that can go over your head, but with review... provide a deeper understanding of the concepts. It's a good idea to read the section he'll be going over prior to class to get the most from his lectures. He grades very fairly on tests and allows you to correct and resubmit HW. I recommend him highly.

Nievergelt is my favorite math prof of all time. The man is extremely brilliant, but also a great teacher. His lectures are always well prepared and clear. You have to put in the time on homework and exams, but if you do he is a gracious grader. I had various classes from him for 4 years and there is none who compare. I love math thanks to him.

I have taken three quarters of math with Dr. Nievergelt and i am still at a loss for just who he is, except that he is strange. As far as mathematical skill and organization, he is impeccable, but i would've appreciated more artfulnes in the presentation

his tests are not at all similar to any of the homework problems so even if the homework was really easy you probably won't do well on the test. His lectures are not very clear.

He is sometimes clear, but more often than not, he doesn't make a lot of sense. He tries to give examples that are over your head, and that is more confusing than anything. His tests can be tough.
