Super interesting lectures, you always wish you had more time to hear more. A wealth of knowledge outside of the regular class material. Gives very thorough and thoughtful feedback on papers.

Yvonne has been one of my favourite professors at UVic. She is such a kind, genuine person who doesn't put on airs of being above students. She's fun but engaging, and doesn't zero in on issues but likes to explore environment and context. Lovely person!

Yvonne's depth of knowledge is particularly apparent in this class. I loved that she teaches, and then gives us a chance to practice right away! Very helpful! Yvonne is also very involved in the School of Social Work and is a fierce advocate for keeping courses on campus!

Comment:

yvonne cares deeply about her students and her profession. She is an empathic, eager instructor and, while sometimes it can feel challenging, she encourages her students to explore the uncomfortable learning moments. She is engaged and excited to learn with her students, rather than just an instructor. I felt I learned a great deal in her course.

Generally speaking I think Yvonne is a kind person who is very passionate about her work. I think however she attempts to enforce her values and beliefs on her students. She is slightly idealistic and watch out if you disagree or call her on something. She decides early on what your grade will be, do not get on her bad side!

I LOVED taking my class with Yvonne. She truly values her students and has a genuine desire to help everyone to learn, understand and aborb the course material. The course was challenging in that it was both in class & online and therefore, was condensed however, Yvonne ensured that the assignments and feedback were well presented and clear!

The online class is demanding in that it has a full week on-campus and then fairly constant assignments for the remaining weeks. However, yvonne really invests herself in her classes and is eager to engage with and work with her students. She is a fantastic teacher and I hope to take future courses with her.

She made the course fun. She was able to really engage her students and create a welcoming class environment. I enjoyed coming to this class every week. She also gave tons of constructive feedback on her assignments which I found helpful. She's a gem.

i felt that Yvonne avoided asserting any management of the in-class politics that took place; allowing student cliques to form and resentments to snowball out of control. This made the year long course highly uncomfortable and stressful.

Amazing teacher, let alone person. In regards to the negative comments, I understand their struggles with her clarity but if anything is unclear all you have to do is talk to her! As simple as that and you'll know just what she is looking for. Very approachable too. She has the biggest heart.

The beginning of the course started off well but it went slowly down hill after that. Very unclear and hard to comprehend in what she wants in assignments. Marking was extremely random. By the end of the course some students weren't speaking to each other. I was glad when the course ended.
