Clear. Funny. good explanations. Expects you to study and will verbally quiz on readings in class. But not tough. Just expects what he expects.

He was not clear with what he wanted out of the assignments, assignment prompts were very general. HARD MARKER for a first year class. Gave help but i often left more frustrated than i came. Take this prof for linguistics or higher level courses. not first year

Phenomenal teacher who blends his own knowledge with the information provided by the textbook to create clear and concise description of the various facts and concepts. Heavily rooted in his field, he is quite enthusiastic about english and its history and is great fun to talk to. So long as you read the texts and ask questions you'll do fine.

Comment:
Morphology - He used a new textbook and wasn't really familiar with it at all, which made it difficult for him to answer questions. Very nice and personable, but seems pretty disorganized and lectures seem pretty unstructured. All powerpoints were put on webct, which was nice. Testing was fair and you can do well if you're willing to study.

A good prof all around. Knows his stuff (grammar, linguistics, prose...), and is passionate about it. Emphases being articulate; make sure you think before you speak (and write). His assignments are very clear, but challenging.

He's funny, I love his accent. He gave me B+'s on my papers which is pretty impressive to me. I didn't really understand the linguistics portion of it (I'm a hardcore sceince student), but hey, if you're into learning phonetics, linguistics, language and all that, then take english with Izydorzyk because that's his specialty.

Intelligent, witty and funny. Made some of the more "boring" aspects of English fascinating for me. Half my classmates have muttered about how stupid the work is (big focus on sounds and theory). Uh, here's a clue: every introductory Eng has a different focus, if you don't like the one you picked, it's your own fault.

He was a great prof! He really knew what he was talking about. At first I thought he came off as a bit stiff, but by the end of the year I was quite amused with his sense of humor and the personal stories he would tell. Definatley sad that the year is over! Would take a class of his again anytime!

Fun and insightful course and prof. Those who complain just realize how little they know about their own language. This course is a valuable asset to all those seeking an English degree or in Education.

His course and teaching style have left a marvellous impact. I recommend him to any student who is hardworking and passionate about English studies. His courses are not for the faint of heart, but they are very rewarding. He is a true expert, and a credit to the university. My writing and critical thinking have improved immensely thanks to him.

Worst class I have ever taken. I'm still shaking from it. If you've never done phonology don't take this class. He's brilliant - I admit it, and very easy to talk to if you arent' talking about English. Problem: He just assumes you should know things and doesn't understand or sympathize when you don't understand. He gets upset at you!
