Excellent class, decent prof. He doesn't really teach the class, he just throws ideas and material at students and expects them to discuss. Most aren't willing to do so, and one or two studious people end up carrying the class. Those unwilling to contribute are very bored and do poorly. He stutters.

Dr. Porter is very open with the fact that he is not an expert in this area; while his lectures are not the most thrilling, he is very helpful and explains things as effectively as possible. Just don't make the mistake I made, GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY if you want a good grade!

Want to know how bad Porter is? The class started with 8 students and at the end only two were attending regularly. Why? Because he cannot teach. Boring as grass growing. Pray you don't get him for any religion class.

He is a wonderful professor. I'm not a theology major, and he made this subject easy to understand. He may not let us out of class early, but he hardly ever keeps us after. The days I have this class are two of my best days of the week. I would like to take more of his classes sometime soon!

class was too early, tough to stay awake. i took decent notes, didn't look at class material at all until before midterm and final. i just crammed and came away with a strong A. he will ask questions to class and wait until someone has an answer, 15 minutes at times...

Very obscure material and biased approach to Bible. Did not take anything away from class. How did he become a prof? Probably better at publishing his own work than teaching. Must be able to write an amazing essay for tests (that is if you can make out what he wants in the first place). UNCLEAR!

Many will not like him, because his area of expertise is very focused and those not very interested in that area will be bored/confused. If you are interested in any sort of Religious education, he's your man. He's hard, but only to those who don't try.
