Al Blaustein was the most influential teacher I've ever had. He was passionate about art, seeing, thinking, doing. AB cared about the fundamentals of art, the pleasure of making things, and hard work. He was tough & not for everyone, but had a clear vision and approach to teaching which you either loved or hated. Most of us loved him though.

Very informative class, with a very difficult personality. I took his class in 1980 and am not sure how I feel about him to this day.He seemed to admire my capability as a draughtsman, but I had to weather his, at times blunt comments.Overall I would rate him very highly as a teacher. R.I.P.

It ain't good to talk**** about the dead...and god bless, Al Blaustein, but he single handedly ****ing killed all my love for drawing for years. It's been 9 years since his class and I still feel the sting of his comments when I draw. He was bitter, nasty, cruel and an absolutely BRILLIANT draftsma

I hated him while i was taking the class, but at the end, he warmed up to us. much more fun on field trips and during non-class time- his whole life is art and he just wanted to bring everyone else to that place. He let me do photo stuff and helped me draw a wicked t-rex. Rest in peace blau.

ok ok ok...listen here, what y'all said up there about blaustein COULD be considered true, yes he is a grumpy old guy with a temper and it can get on your nerves, BUT I am so glad I stuck in there, he is a drawing genius and changed the way i see evrythng

Although hes clear in what he wants, nothing you do is good enough. Definitely prejudice, and unable to teach in a new way. Makes students feel inadequate to work harder. I dont work harder while being insulted, makes me not want to do better.

Cruel, unrelenting, prejudiced, against non-traditional media students (photoraphers, filmmakers, and anyone who makes art with a computer, beware). If hell has a drawing class, he'll be teaching in it.
