Comment:

Professor Fischler is a very nice guy. The class was not a lot of work, you just have to read 7 plays.. take a quiz about them and there are 3 tests. The tests are very heavily weighted and the quizzes and tests are very difficult. Participation matters!!

Comment:

Alan Fischer is not a bad professor. He has a quiz on every reading, but you're allowed to bring your notes. If you actually do the reading you will always get an 8/10 or higher. His tests are the same as the quizzes just 33 questions instead of 10. If you actually read and don't complain this class will be easy for you. But no phones or laptops.

Although there was a lot of work in this class, all quizzes and tests were open notes. That being said, you got out of it what you put into it. He was very passionate, and funny. Made reading ancient plays really insightful and interesting.

Dr. Fischler is the best professor I've ever had. In brief, he's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his work. He provided insight into the English language that has guided me through my professional career. He taught me how to go forward with confidence in my work and interactions with peers and leadership. He's a true teacher and leader

Dr. Fishcler is one of the worst English professor. You are expected to read the material and then take a test on it before you discuss it in class. His grading on essays are ridiculous, because he goes line by line correcting things he perceives as wrong. Do not take him because he's not fair. He seems to hate English majors. Got a C+ on test.

I never thought that I would be saying this about an english teacher, but he is one of my favorite teachers. I took his class fall of 2010. I loved it. every play must be read. He required posting on blackboard on the play, but not you didn't have to post on all the plays. I would recommend him to anyone at Le Moyne

Very interesting to talk to, and is very open to student opinions. Gives opportunities for extra credit. I took two classes with him, and I can say that he requires attendance and participation. Breezing through the class in the back of the room is not an option, but the material is interesting enough to want to talk in class.

This man is completely full of himself. He is one of those professors that tries to come off as being"cool", he wants you to question everyone, but if you question him- watch out!! He was my advisor and he actually refused to write me a recommendation for grad school b/c he didn't agree with my work as editor-in-chief of the Dolphin Newspaper!

I had him this past semester. It is the first time that I can say that an English was my favorite class. It wasn't an easy class. You actually have to try in the course and participate. He is also really helpful and if you go to office hours he will always listen to you and make time for you. I would take a course with him again.

Awesome professor! Don't take this class if you expect to breeze through it. You must read the Shakespeare plays. He has you type a 300 word response to each play. Offers extra credit. Expects discussion. Weekly 10-question quizzes consisting of specific quotes for each play. Notes are allowed for quizzes and exams; books are not.

Expectations are crystal clear. The problem is if you don't follow them by the letter don't expect a good grade. Participation is way TOO IMPORTANT! if you don't like to talk DONT take his class. Participation is a big deal. Also a very anal grammar grader. Dont take this course.

Do the work and you won't have a problem. Participation is key in his class-and an easy % that can either make or break your grade. Blackboard postings are only 600 words and are easy to write on. Would I sign up for another class by him? Yes. He lays down his expectations and they are pretty cut and dry.
