Comment:
Harland was a tough professor, but if you read the book assigned you should have NO problem. I learned a great deal in his class and enjoyed it. I really don't understand why he has a low rating on here. Maybe it's the lazies complaining or those who want to be handed an A. Read before class, jot down a few notes & you're good to go! I swear by it!

This class was the reason I became a criminal Justice Major. His class isn't an easy A but if your interested in CJ he opens your eyes to thousands of opportunities you could have in the field. You have to go to class and do his assignments but they're all worthwhile and they teach you so much. His tests are straight out of the book, i recommend.

Not the easiest professor in the world, but you will learn something. He does expect a lot from you in this class such as readings, assignments and current events. Keep up with the readings because he picks randomly in class to answer questions. Tests are a slightly difficult, but your going to have to work for it. He does offer extra credit!

Probably one of the worst classes I've ever taken. He knows what he is talking about but doesn't know how to teach the material. Talks about the syllabus every class for the first two months and then brings up random subjects that don't have anything to do with the test. Test are extremely hard and are not on anything you talk about in class

Dr. Harland knows what he's talking about, but doesn't know how to impart any of that knowledge on a class of students. Lectures rarely touch on anythng relavent to the course, and assignments are vauge. Don't bother asking him for clarification because he'll respond with asking you questions you can't answer.

Horrible teacher, obnoxious and vague and doesn't explain anything in class, tests are ridiculous and there's no conceivable way to adequately prepare for any of his assignments. Don't take his course unless you are passionately in love with the subject matter.

He is an amazing and funny teacher. He puts you on the spot at times but its always to your own benefit to further help you in class. He ALWAYS explains what he looks for in papers he requires. He says things that may seem rude to close minded people but he is actually just trying to get people more comfortable in class. He is a very cool professor

This teacher is nice, but he should stick to being a lawyer. This was supposed to be a GEN ED course, but he made us feel like we were all law students. He gives no quizzes but his tests are extremely hard. He gives study guides for each test, but they don't help one bit. Do not take this class unless you really need to you will regret it!

DON'T TAKE HIM or you will ruin your life. Basically studied like those CJ major kids. He made you study like you are going to be a judge or lawyer eventhough this is just a GEN ED. Tests are long, hard and had to do many stupid assignments. His TA was rude and useless. He'd put everyone to sleep so easily. Take him if you want to waste your time!

Victims class. Smart guy can be intimidating (all lawyer prof's are) but he knows his stuff. If your dumb and have no common sense look elsewhere otherwise you will learn more in this class and from this guy than your entire college career. Not an easy class but do the work, listen and you will be fine LAZYness need not apply!

Tests are very long & can be very hard if you don't study. Definitely don't wait til the night before to study because he uses a lot of the material on the tests. My class had to read the paper online everyday & talk about an article that related to the class. Not a bad class at all just make sure you go to class cause he checks everyday.

Had Harland last semester and he is very intimidating, I felt like he was explaining the same material over and over again. Your grade was basically on the tests given. We had a internet paper to complete, which he wanted very detailed. The test did not correlate with the material he told us to study. It was awful, save yourself.

Legit smart guy, he knows his field and he knows it well. He just is not teacher material. He as the attitude of a preacher: whatever he feels like talking about during class he will. He'll spend the entire 50 mins on one subject. Do well on the final though and you're set. Does like to put you on the hot seat in front of a lecture hall.

spends class after class after class explaining how to do one simple thing so many points on the tests are never talked about during class. very rarely responds to emails and never returns papers. he shows up a few minutes late everyday then tries to keep us a few minutes late. nice guy but has no business teaching a large class.

I'm a CJ major and had him for intro to CJ. There is no doubt that he's one of the best professors in the CJ department. There are a lot of ppl complaining and whining about his challenging tests and papers. But if you are not ready to challange yourself and strive to improve, you really shouldn't be here. Make some effort. Take him.
