Lane was alright. Uses a ton of excel to teach, so knowing excel to follow along helps. The homeworks are hard, but they are suppose to be for group work. He tries to make sure the class understands a topic before moving on. Do not be afraid to ask questions.

The class isn't difficult but he likes to do a lot of examples using excel in class. While this is helpful for a job, it makes the tests a little harder because the problems must be worked out by hand. There is lot's of homework that will take time, plus weekly group projects that usually aren't difficult but sometimes take a while to complete.

Dr. Lane is a pretty good person but his online homework takes hours to do. Hard grader on test and the team homeworks are difficult to understand becasue there are no clear directions.

Dr. Lane is super nice and will always help if the effort is put forth to ask for it. He prepares you well for future classes while giving you a work ethic that will be used your entire life. The class is tough, but it Chemical Engineering the hardestbest major on campus! "If it was easy everybody would do it and it wouldn't be worth doing"

Coming from someone who dropped CHE after dropping this course: It is a weedout course by design. I think they give tests too long for the time allowance on purpose. Homework 2-3 hoursnight. The material is awful BUT Lane is super nice and cares about his students. He is up front about the amount of work and always sent us motivational emails lol.

Dr. Lane really wants to help you learn the material, but he doesn't understand that 254 is not your only class. You get a formula sheet on tests, but the time constraints make somewhat simple tests much more difficult. His lectures are not helpful on learning or understanding, because he just works one problem per class without explaining much.

Alan lane is one of the worst professors I have had at Alabama so far. He believes his class is the only one that you are taking. He assigns ridiculousness amount of homework that do not relate to the lectures. You have to be willing and able teach yourself the material. Avoid Alan Lane at all cost!!!

His class was horrible. It was very hard to keep up and the tests would be a million times more difficult than the example problems. Half of the time, he would not be able to answer the practice problems himself and would spend an entire class period on one question. If you can't teach yourself brand new material, you shouldn't take this class.

This is a very difficult class. Going to lectures isn't much help. Lane even says its a self-learn class. He doesn't have sympathy either. No curve on the final grade, and even though the majority of the class failed some tests, there is no bonus or scale. Homework is awful and takes hours. Look up the solution manual online, and copy it.

He is by no means an easy teacher but this class does seem to prepare for what ChemE classes are like. It is a weed out class but if you stick with it you can pass (maybe not with a grade you like) but still passing. LearnChemE online is really helpful!

If you want to save your GPA, switch majors while you can. Lane was the only 254 teacher this year and more than half the class dropped chemical engineering because of him. He's an awesome guy, just a really bad teacher. He assigns about 2-3 hours of homework a night. More than half the class fails his exams. HW will save your grade

He is a completely unhelpful teacher. All notes are using assumed knowledge and does not help students. The tests are extremely difficult and there is a large amount of homework. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR A NON-INTRODUCTORY CLASS

He's a nice guy, but his lectures don't make sense and aren't helpful. Ridiculous amounts of homework, and very little help when test time comes around. Just like any other ChemE professor, he assumes that his class is the only class you're taking. Tests are normally 50/50 pass fail. Doesn't give answers to practice tests.

Idk about other classes but for 254 Dr. Lane was mediocre. A decent amount of people dropped ChemE because of him. He didn't have office hours, didn't explain examples all that well, and would take off obnoxious amounts of points on the test for small errors. I made an A luckily but most other people I know either dropped or squeaked by.

Dr. Lane is a really nice guy. He expects you to study more than most students are willing to do, and more than most have time to do, but if you put in your work you will be ok. The assigned homework isn't very helpful, but the book examples are. Even if you are struggling at the beginning, if you are trying he will help you out.

VERY EASY! just go to class, go to a few activities. Basically a guaranteed A! The daily quizzes are simple and only a few questions. The lectures are boring but you learn about what a Chem E does.

Seemingly biased and unclear grading. Not terribly eloquent. Don't seem to learn much in lecture, you basically have to teach yourself. A very nice guy though.
