This professor (who I had the honor of studying with 3 or 4 times) had a profound effect on my life. He is gentle, extremely patient and truly wants the student to learn, especially about themselves. He was never disrespectful in any way to anyone (women or men) over the 4 years that I spent time with him. A rare professor!

alan is one of the most beautiful human beings i've ever met. i love the guy, and i'm so sad to hear that he's retiring. well, i'm thrilled for him, but my heart aches for all of the future students who won't experience his passion, warmth, and utter brilliance. we love ya alan!

Alan is an engaging prof, who takes time to answer questions in and out of class, and he's really funny in his odd, pun-filled way. Strays off track fairly easily, and I've noticed he can be a tad condescending at times, but he really doesn't mean to be. Overall good phil prof, sad to see him retir.

Paskow is a good guy and one of SMC's smartest profs, but he tends to get a bit too enraptured with the material. His lectures are, in a sense, very poetic, but this affection for what he's teaching tends to muddle his efforts to explain the material.

Alan was great, even when laughing when he announced my name at graduation. Best ever though is him putting his hand on his head and just shaking it after I asked another dumb question in class. Great memories. Great prof.

Alan knows his stuff, but I'm not sure if I've met someone ruder. If you don't have a doctorate, don't try to engage him in conversation. You're below him and he'll put you in your place.
