Comment:
The syllabus is a lie and he refused to give any information on an assignment past surface level. We had a term paper due at the final and the week before he tacked on a extra paper that wasn't on the syllabus. He then told us to basically redo all of the work in the class (since we all had 4.0s, 1 person showed up to like 1 class) 2 earn our grade

He would be great as a "old man tells you life advice" professor, but less so as an English one. He goes off on tangents about LITERALLY NOTHING with pseudo-religious undertones for the majority of class, and when you think it has a purpose, it doesn't. Waste of my time. Spent the class ignoring him and doing actual writing on my own.

He is the rudest professor that I have ever encountered. In the beginning of the semester he told some students that college wasnt for them . Then he told me during our one on one meetings that I wouldnt be a good therapist and that I dont care about people because I wrote a story for myself rather than an audience. He is very rude! Avoid him !

The wisest man I have ever had the pleasure of being taught by. So much knowledge and experience. Talks very low so that you have to listen to him, but you will want to. The man knows what he's talking about, and can teach you valuable life lessons without even realizing it.

The best professor I've ever had. He never made it easy for me, but he pushed me to be a better writer and offered great criticisms every time we spoke. He allowed me to find my own style and embrace my own ideas, no matter how ridiculous. His lectures are a little boring, but he rarely lectures for whole classes. He understands writers.

He is by far THE MOST AMAZING man ever. He's so inspirational. He was my advisor and professor and he gave such good feedback. He wouldn't tell you if your creative pieces sucked or were good but he'd really really dig into the soul and rhythm of your writing. He's just one of those people who will change your life forever. I miss him. Take it!!!!

Nicest teacher ever! He speaks a bit softly at times but keeps the class interesting. He is more than happy to answer questions even if you feel stupid for asking. Never puts anyone down and leaves great feedback on assignments. There's a lot of reading but that was the point of the class. The class was so much fun and I'll be having him again.

The Stein! Such a great teacher. His notes are terrible and sometimes his voice puts me to sleep, especially early in the morning. He grades super fairly and expects a lot but if you are willing to do the work and actually put time in you will get a 4.0.

Amazing teacher, amazing writer. Extremely friendly and very willing to talk about your work. You will probably fall asleep during his lectures, but his lectures aren't nearly as important as his approachability and input on your work. I've taken as many classes with him as I can. As long as you show you are trying, he will give you a good grade.

The most awesome professor in existence. He's the only person on this campus who understands that writing majors are lazy and don't want to sit in class all day. However, lectures will put you in a state of catatonic bliss. G.O.A.T.!

Alan Steinberg is the MAN! If you want to be a writer, take his workshops. He knows what it takes to be a writer and affords his students the opportunities to write. There are no BS time-wasting assignments, they're all relevant and help us grow as writers. I'll miss you A. He's probably one of the best proffs here!

I loved both the class and Steinberg. It doesn't really feel like you do much in his actual class, but out of class work is fairly appropriate. It's a play writing class-- you write plays and then act in them. He's extremely caring and helpful during conferencing as he sees the ideas flowing and really helps to bring them out. Easy 4.0!

The class's strength lies in his individual conferencing and sheet hand outs. His lectures don't tell you much and they are repetitive. However, his conferencing is truly helpful and he is very approachable. As long as you keep up with your work and show up to class there's really no reason to fail.

Poor lecturer, has tendency to wander off and has hands off teaching methods. However, very involved in student work process. More than happy to look at your work everyday, and make suggestions. There is no reason you should get less than a 3.0 in this class if you actually try.

Talking to him is pointless, as he will circle around and around without actually saying anything. His lectures are pretty boring and stay on the same topic for weeks. His one on one conferences are terrible, as he obviously never really read my paper. Avoid him if you can, he's all a false front!

Easy as s*** but just as interesting. The class is inconcievably slow. He lectures fairly well, but stays on the same topic for weeks. Terrible class with nothing to gain by taking it. Steinberg, on the other hand, has a great sense of humor. His favorite word is "chihuahua". Nice guy.
