Great professor, great class, you read and write about a lot of interesting things (anti-catholicism, cuckolding, 18th century executions) , tough grader though so you gotta put in the effort

Lectures are a bit boring, but the professor's style makes the lectures more interesting and fun. He is VERY passionate about the material and you will learn more about the history of some things, even if you've learned them before in other classes. He's also very funny. Easy A, but only take the class if you have a strong prior interest.

He's an extremely fair grader and a really cool guy. He's funny and his accent is cool. As boring as the class is, (basically western civ) his enthusiasm makes it interesting. Participation is only mandatory during discussions and lectures don't really have anything to do with any of the written assignments. There is no midterm or final. Take it.

hes a really nice guy, hes funny, and hes a genius. there are no tests in his class, just a few essays that are pretty straightfoward with what they ask of you. easy class if youre either very smart or if you do all the readings and pay attention. i absolutely do not regret taking it and ive actually enjoyed myself.

Professor Bellany gives great lectures and the best part is that you don't have to pay complete attention. I would go in and out of listening, and if something caught my attention I would listen and I learned a lot. For recitation you have a lot to read every week so make sure to plan that out, and my TA (not Bellany) was a very tough grader.

Sucks at life. Grades too harshly. Provides prompts that are vague and general. When you fail to craft your essay and address/pose the arguments that he wants, your grade suffers. Also, he attacks diction and writing style so feverishly that he completely disregards the content and analysis that is provided. Provided the chance, take DiBattista.

I LOVED THIS MAN! He grades better than the TA, without exception, he is clear, funny, an outstanding professor, lecturer, and human being. His assignments require thought more than knowledge, and he is always willing to help. His jokes were great for a good chuckle, and his accent is amazing. A must for history lovers.

I loved his lectures and some of the jokes he'd crack in class. I found it very interesting in the begginning of the semester, but I feel like it dragged. I don't know how he is with grading papers but my TA graded mine rather harshly and took off points for the stupidest things. I was able to still get a solid B, though.

Wonderful Professor! Great sense of humor, clearly intelligible, very British! Cracks jokes constantly about the French and English soccer, and the price of museums. Assignments are easy and he grades based on how much you include. I suggest taking his classes if you enjoy European History even a little.

Best Professor I've had at Rutgers so far, very interesting lectures plus he's really funny. Easy grader and you don't even need a text book. Also the final only took 5 minutes tops to finish, it's fill in the blank. I mean I haven't had a test like that since grade school. AMAZING PROFESSOR.

Professor Bellany was awesome. I am not a history major, so I took the class because I thought it would be interesting. Barely needed the text books, do the sakai readings! Two short papers and a final that is based on the primary readings. Class participation important too. Overall it was a great class, if you do the work you'll get an A.

Professor Bellany is passionate about what he teaches however he grades really hard (its a 100 level class!) The topics for the papers are so broad and you are left to just figure out what he wants. Grade:3 papers 20, 25,25. Final exam 25 and participation 15. If you need to take this class make sure you have a good TA or take it with someone else.

The way he teaches makes you want to come to lecture. He usually introduces new concepts by telling stories of a specific persons or event that occurred during the time period you're learning about. You MUST read and go to recitation to do well on the papers. He is extremely helpful and likes to make the class laugh. He has a sexy accent, too.

This professor ROCKED! He really wants everyone to succeed - just make sure you're proactive (let him know you need help). the readings really arent bad at all. Dont need the textbook do need books for the papers. 1 5 page paper and 2 1-2 page papers. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSION. he gave all the exam answers. Can't say it enough the man is AWESOME!

As a freshman, I'm fairly certain i will NEVER have another professor quite like Alastair Bellany. Lectures are very interesting, discussion groups are fun, just do the readings and take some notes and you'll be more than fine. WORLD CLASS professor, funny, witty, entertaining in every respect. I'd pay double tuition to have him teach every class.

Maybe it's my affinity for an English accent, but I just was in love with this prof. He's one of the best, if not the best, professors at RU. Extremely intelligent, passionate, hilarious, witty, creative and he likes the Sex Pistols! 2 papers and a final paper. Most of the info comes from lectures, but his lectures are so fun. Highly recommended!
