Alden is a prof who wants to know her students and just what those want out of her workshops. My first Alden course was Travel Writing (WR 320) and knew I had to take another of hers before graduating. The aim of her workshops is to make pieces publishable. Outside of the course she makes herself available to help & advise. Don't leave EC w/o Alden

The best professor I have ever had and the most rewarding class I've ever taken. A pleasure to listen to. Its obvious she knows her stuff yet never strays too far into self fulfilling lectures and really pulls genuinely great observations out of her students. I would go out of my way to take another one of her classes, no matter the subject.

I took Aldens Literature of Photography class and it was a really interesting class. Theres a bit of reading and there were 3 photography projects and a final (no midterm exam, just a paper) and we mostly talked about morally complex situations in the world of photography. Shes really cool, and her son is the sweetest.

I've never had a teacher like Alden before. She's almost like a peer....a brilliant, totally in command peer. She treated us like we were already real writers and because of that, we worked hard to live up to it.

Alden is awesome. Knowledgeable and straight-forwardâ€" she is in control of the class and knows the content like no other, but is also open to new ideas from her students. She can come off a little harsh sometimes, but is really very nice. Super interesting projects too. You end up learning a lot about yourself along with the actual content.

I had Alden for Exoticism in Lit & Art. She's extremely friendly, runs the class well, and understands that her class is not a student's entire world. However, you do need to do the mandatory readings in order to do well. You will do lots of reading, but you will learn and you'll enjoy yourself.

I had Alden for Intro Nonfiction and it was a fantastic class. She's a strong workshop leader, but also a true scholar who can speak to the methodology of nonfiction writing on a conceptual level as well as a practical level. She fostered a strong community of writers and made it clear how excited she was about the written word. Highly recommend!

I was really nervous going into this class, since I hadn't ever workshopped before. It ended up being my favourite class I've had at Emerson! She's an amazing professor, is really funny and kind, and I truly feel that my writing has greatly improved throughout this class. If you get the chance, take this class!!!!

One of the best classes I've taken at Emerson, and definitely the best writing workshop. Jones knows what she's talking about, is friendly and smart, and knows how to run a workshop and balance critiques of students' strengths and weaknesses. I would take another class with her in a heartbeat.

Alden's one of the few writing professors that is actually a part of the contemporary fiction scene. She's extremely helpful, and can even seem "hip" at times. She knows her stuff, and has a wealth of practical knowledge (i.e. publishing process). Unfortunately, Alden has a really annoying rule about tardiness where she won't let you into class or
