I highly reccomend taking a course with Dr. Pettit, if not for the scholarly discussion then for the myriad of dad jokes. I grew both as a critical reader and as a persuasive writer thanks to his thoughtful and constructive comments on my papers. He is by far the best professor I've ever had. Also, don't forget to do the extra credit!

He's a tough grader even if you're not an English major, so beware. This course required us to read a playwright a week and if you don't read it you will fail the weekly quiz. I think he means well, it was just difficult hearing a white male try to discuss the female perspective.

Dr. Pettit will go out of his way to help those students who put in their best effort to do well in his class. Go to office hours. Get to know him. He will have great brainstorming sessions with you to discuss the literature or your papers. I would not recommend taking his class if you are not willing to work or do the reading.

By far the best professor I have had in all 4 years at UNT. Dr. Pettit is brilliant, hilarious, caring and approachable. His classes aren't easy, you must read all the material and engage in discussion (but you will want to). He is quite specific on papers but they are short and reading quizzes once a week are simple if you read. Take his class!

He's very open to office hours and will discuss your essays in detail with you before turning in. But he grades a little harder since you got the help. He prefers class discussions about the texts, but always have the books read before! His quizzes are easy, but you don't know when it's coming! Super nice and loves his students like they're his kid

Dr. Pettit is a wonderful and kind human being beyond being a fantastic educator. And he's quite funny to boot. Take his class and don't be discouraged by the first paper grade. He's extremely reasonable and wants his students to be successful.

This professor is funny and interesting, but this was his first time teaching an intro level class. He sent rude degrading mass emails to our class saying we were awful and didn't know how to write to his level. This would be because we are in an intro class..... He makes excuses a lot for his lack of preparation of they class and expectations.

i took his modern drama class. while he is witty and entertaining, in-depth quizzes are given before discussing the plays...it would have been better to be given quizzes AFTER discussing plays so that students that didn't understand the plays can actually do well on the quizzes.

(Modern Drama) Wonderful professor. Funny and entertaining, but also really passionate about the material. This is a labor intensive class, be prepared to read a new play and take a quiz every week. Your grade will directly reflect the effort you put in. Very fair grading, great discussions, highly recommend the class and professor.

Dr. Pettit is great. He's extremely funny and his lectures are wonderful. He told us from day one, "If you manage to be able to take notes in my class, it will be a miracle." Dr. Pettit has been the best professor I've ever had. Take his modern drama class; you will become a far more insightful individual.
