Comment:
It's true through Borgida's teaching you can tell he thinks like an engineer but he works with students. If you ask questions and go to his office hours as needed then you will get a good grade. It's that simple. He's not wildly entertaining and his teaching may leave you with questions but all you need to do is ask. He's a good prof

Comment:
Alexander Borgida genuinely cares about teaching, but his lectures are structurally flawed. Borgida reads slides for an hour and a half; this is not an effective way to learn. Yet he takes attendance, so you are required to subscribe to this ineffective teaching method which, at least for me, but I suspect many others, was a waste of time.

The lord of vagueness who mastered in the art of making students confused. Get ready to work your butt off. He will read the slides, but show up for the attendance. HW are like decoding crypted message. Demands billion features in the project. Did I just say billion? yes, BILLION in capital. TA's have no mercy grading.

His lectures are very dry and redundant. Good thing the concepts for this subject are straight forward because this professor isn't the brightest for a CS professor. I've had worse professors though.

Comment:
Professor Borgida was a very good professor for Discrete Structures, aka CS205. His greatest strengths were his care for his students, and his very thorough visual slide decks he constructed. He always did what he could to make sure we were rewarded for putting work in. His lectures were a bit hard to understand sometimes, but self-study helps.

He gives a semester long web project that is ungodly long and expects a billion features. Don't procrastinate on this or you're screwed. Tests and homeworks are quite difficult too.

prof doesn't really believe, in posting solutions online, also no practice midterm, basically you are on your own after the lecture.

So like Professor Borgida was an unclear professor, we all have to admit that he is a bit ambigous during his lecture. But he is a very smart and inspirational. I said "Keep asking question", in class, in office hours, ... whenever you have a chance. If you ask the right questions, he would not be that ambiguous, and you'll learn alot!

It's a confusing class but if you're willing to put in the work you will do well. Also if you go to office hours/ just ask questions professor Borgida appreciates that and helps you understand. Just don't be lazy with this class, actually try.

My god, his lectures were torture. I fell asleep half the time and the other half I couldn't even pay attention. This wouldn't be so bad if he didn't make attendance mandatory. Also, his assignments are very vague in what hes asking. I have never felt like i learned so little after taking a CS class until this one.

Teaches Software Engineering, does NOT know how to code. Arbitrary grading. Changes syllabus on a whim mid-semester. Extremely disorganized. Rambles about occasionally vaguely relevant high-level concepts. Never gave us grades for 80% of the work we did - only a final grade, on Jan 2nd. Learned a lot, via google, thanks to a massive project.

Its 2013, I'd say his material is over 20 years old but someone in 2003 said that. Extremely unclear! Tries to nitpick at your project. Project is lame. Embarrassed to say hes a professor at my school. Avoid at all costs. You can thank me later.

Very committed to teaching and helping students. Expect heavy workload for homeworks. The only minus is that his lecture presentation is very incomprehensible. Otherwise, one of the most committed individuals. Exams are top-notch.

Horrible teacher in every sense of the word. Makes every topic complicated regardless of how simple it may be. Can ramble on about something the lecture is not related to just because he wants to give "insight" into the topic.. I do not recommend taking this professor.. if you do make the book your best friend..

Extremely helpful if you approach him outside of class. He is pretty knowledgeable but sometimes takes the wrong direction to teach some topics and make it too complicated. His projects are easy. He is very flexible in grading.
