Dr. Labrinidis is a good teacher. Lectures were clear and simple, assignments were challenging but doable, and he made a lot of jokes. His grading scheme is really weird (he grades you based on your performance relative to others, so a 100% on a project often isn't an A+). I didn't get a broader understanding of data science, just pieces of it

He uses up to date, easy to use technologies. These make it super simple to follow along in class. He teaches cutting edge, marketable technologies and techniques, as well as the foundations for their inventions. All in all great professor. Very organized class material. 5/7 perfect experience

Good teacher. The class uses $30 TopHat service for attendance and class participation. Questions about projects/tests are answered using Piazza system. 2 tests - a little on the easy side. Projects are fair and not too demanding. No feedback on projects unless you ask. All grades are graded on relative scale. Caring and enjoyable lectures.

Honestly bewildered by the good reviews here. Maybe it was just this semester, but 1656 was a disaster. We went 1.5 months without a project assigned and then he assigned 2 projects right before finals week. We got midterm grades back 4 days before the final. The last half of the semester was SQL queries on the board. Avoid esp. if you are a senior

Received midterm grades a week before the final. Professor was disorganized and didn't release projects in a timely manner. Useful data science concepts were learned at the beginning of the class, but then the class basically turned into a db class. Some final exam topics weren't covered in enough detail (one lecture and no project on a topic)

He is totally disorganized. He gave me a 60 for a non compile when the fix was 5 lines of printout and a error that was introduced because his prompt was unclear and he only answered last minute. We didn't ever get our midterms back either and I need this class to graduate. This guy is a nightmare of a professor. He also cancelled 2 projects.

Great professor. Gives out extensions like candy if the class needs more time. Gives out actual candy as well when he needs to turn recitation into substitute lectures. Really knows his teaching subject and wants to help his students succeed. Will clarify anything if needed, and uses helpful handouts using lecture to give detailed examples.

His lectures were very well organized. The course overall was presented in a very structured way. I'm about to go in to finals week, but the midterm was not difficult at all as long as you study. I thought the projects were perfect - easy and relatively short, but very relevant to the real-world. I learned a lot from this class with minimal effort.

Spends a lot of time showing examples of code and explaining how code snippets, things that any documentation could tell you. Tests are more about how fast you can code than making anything this very elegant or functional. Learned a lot, but mostly on my own rather than in lecture.

Extremely disorganized and fairly rude one-on-one. Has no concept of time... Seemed interested in subject material but didn't really know how to connect with students. Slow to grade, and graded based on specifics rather than overall concepts and understanding of material. Overall a very disappointing class, despite my interest in databases.

I just want to say that this guy is a great professor. To claim that he's lazy or bad at teaching is simply false. He explains everything clearly and if you attend class and keep up on the material you will have no problems. He is a bit disorganized only in that he doesn't post readings, but you just have to have the initiative to read on your own

I'm writing this review during one of his lectures. I've only been in this class for 3 weeks but I can already say that this course is a complete fiasco. There is no syllabus, he's just completely making it up as he goes along. No homework yet, no readings, no projects. A total disorganized mess. I am sorely disappointed.

I learned a lot in this web 2.0 course. Labrinidis is definitely enthusiastic and had a lot of interesting projects. The class was certainly a little disorganized but it was the first time that it was offered, and we were using extremely new technologies. Take his class, you'll have fun.

I enjoyed the Web 2.0 with Dr. Labrinidis. Granted it was somewhat unorganized but that is to be expected with a trial course. We did some cool stuff with AJAX and the Android mobile platform. If I could take this class again and do more Web 2.0-type stuff, I would.

Supremely lazy. Most of his lectures consisted of him reading something he printed out from the Web. One lecture, he went through an online tutorial on Ruby, and was very obviously confused at how to use AN ONLINE TUTORIAL. Gave two projects in what should have been a programming-intensive class. Seriously, do not waste your time with him.

He is probably the laziest and most unorganized professor in the entire department. Hes a good teacher, but he takes forever to get things graded and often changes the syllabus of the class because of how slowly things move along with him. The only consolation to all this is that his class is relatively easy when it comes to difficulty.
