Comment:

Lecture was boring and uninspiring. Ali tried to engage with the class but was not successful. The worst part was the unclear assignment. Assignment questions were very vague. Evaluation rubric was posted the day before the assignment due when most people have submitted. Grader clearly doesn't understand investment. Exam had typos.

Comment:

One of the most caring and helpful professors I have had both inside and outside of class. . His exams were fair and based on the practice problems. Lecture notes were helpful as they provided enough info but not too much infomation so that students still attend his lectures; they provided enough info that you don't need the optional textbook.

He's one of the worst professors I have had at UBC and really should not be teaching this course since it's clear he doesn't enjoy doing it nor cares for students' learning. He often makes mistakes in class and does not remember how he did his own answer key. It was unclear what is on the final and his lecture notes provided abysmal help.

Very interesting lecture and nice guy. Unfortunately not a good teacher. Going off lecture too much, no structure, can't do basic math and don't even remember what he wrote in his own answer keys. Also no early feedback form so can't even tell him that he should improve if he wants people to listen to him.

Let me start by saying that I got an A on this class. The content of the course is super interesting. Nonetheless, the professor is one of the worst I`ve had at UBC. He is actually not a terrible lecturer, but always very unprepared for class. He is not interested in student learning, and the worst part is that he is very disorganized. bad

Ali is the worst professor that I have had at UBC. He doesn't know the subject well. When you ask him a question in class, he has trouble answering. Large amount of the material on the exam was not taught properly. Only had 1:30 hour office hours before exam. Does not care about the student, does not answer email, has yet to grade the assignments.

Ali is an excellent professor in that he pushes your understanding of the material so that you can apply it in ways that isn't simply regurgitation. This is not an easy class, and that is reflected in the material - not the professor. If you are not up to the challenges of a higher level Finance class, please do not blame the professor.

Prof Lazrak is one of the best I've had at Sauder. He is very helpful and does a great job in making sure you stay on top of your work throughout the year. His teaching style is the best I've encountered yet. Exams are hard, but all you have to do is practice, practice, practice!

Ali puts in a lot of effort to ensure that you understand what he's saying. His teaching is generally good, but fails to give comprehensive explanations sometimes(may be due to time constraints in class). Practice questions provided are very useful, though you would have to go to class to get his notes. Slides aren't great.

First of all, his English was totally easy to understand. I thought he was a good prof. The lectures were a little dry, but I found him really helpful outside of class. The exams were hard, but I don't know what the other people are complaining about... welcome the third year finance, guys...

This proff is horrible. I still pulled an A in the course, but it was my lowest grade ever. I did well in spite of Ali. Sure he speaks english, but that's shouldn't be a prof's best quality. He lacks the ability to bridge the gap between the student's level of knowledge and what the course requries.

Ali is a better prof than some of these reviews would lead you to believe. His English is fine, and he genuinely cares about his students. Exams are difficult, but fair - he prepared us well for them. Don't listen to the people who didn't do well in his class because they don't understand Finance. You could do MUCH worse than taking 374 with Ali.

Terrific Finance prof. Don't listen to prior posters' opinions. He prepares u for the real world, his english is fine, he prepared everyone who came 2 class perfectly for the final. High class avg. Take him to learn a lot and if you like finance; don't take him if you would rather be in HR or Mrktng. Stop blaming the prof for your own shortcomings.

Despite all the students' feedback about his terrrible midterm exam, he still puts on rediculous questions on the final exams. And he even labelled it "THIS QUESTION IS HARD". What's the point of testing us something that you haven't even taught us? He expects too much from undergrads. If you can, avoid him at all cost..actually avoid C374 if u can
