Comment:

You must teach yourself outside of class unless you are able to follow him during his lecture. He does not go in depth as to why you are doing what you are doing or how to apply it. Lots of notes in which he writes on the board, but they were not helpful to me.

Could be better if I did not have him the first quarter... Still, his lectures are confusing and I spent more time reading the textbook than listening to him in class. It does not seem that hard when I recall it, though. Not suggested taking for the first quarter of freshman year.

The class is easy to get an A. There are extra credits to make the test score higher. But the tests seem a little easier. The final will be harder than the test he gives. He is a good person. Although sometimes unclear on lecture, he is willing to answer questions and explain it.

Comment:

Unclear lectures. Writes a bit over here, then a bit over there, then a bit back over there. 2-3 errors in example problems during class. Stay alert, else they'll propagate and waste time. My best advice: LEARN TO USE MAPLE WELL. He didn't show us how to use Maple to plot/solve/etc. You need those skills for the exams and final. Figure it out.

He is not a very hard teach if you simply go and talk to him in office, in class he is not so hot but out side of class he I was able to learn a lot from him and pass all of his test with high B's and A's

Classes are boring and often times confusing. He gives great class notes and maple scripts though. Prepare to self-study!!! Tests and quizzes are not hard, and not too much homework. Take his class if you already know the course.

Took him for DEII; not a fan. Gets lost in the middle of a problem often, dismissed a class early because he messed up a problem so bad he didn't know where to start, writes poor instructions for group projects, and is generally unhelpful when you ask for clarification or other forms of help. Avoid at all costs, your GPA will thank you.

he is one of the most intelligent men I've ever met. however, He CAN NOT BRING A POINT ACROSS TO YOU TO SAVE HIS LIFE IN CLASS.. The only way you will really learn is by the book, and his online notes which are extremely help. Other than that he is fair grader and gives a lot of chances to help improve your grade.

He is the worst prof I've ever had . He does the problems on the board wrong every time, and one time he did a problem so wrong he had to let class out early because he couldn't figure it out. He is disorganized and writes worksheets and projects with so many error they are impossible to do. The textbook is a much better teacher than him.

This teacher was the worst teacher I've ever encountered. He spends the entire class period talking to himself as he writes incomprehensible nonsense on the board that would only make sense if you studied the textbook 24/7. Along with this, he assigns ludicrously long homework assignments that cause you to question your sanity. Avoid at all costs!

Gives long lectures about stuff that doesn't matter, and expects you to know the material that does. I had a rough time in this class, I felt that if you took Calc 2 in high school, you had a major advantage. Would rather drop and delay than go through this pain. I enjoy math, but his class is a world of hurt. Lectures are directly from the book.

The worst professor I've had in my two years at Rose. He can't explain concepts to save his life, he rambles on and on, and he was very poor at addressing questions students had in class. Avoid at ALL COSTS.

Rotten Broughton. A nick name I found to be very true. His lectures are very hard to follow, I was lucky I had a decent understanding of this material or I'd be in trouble. He gave us a huge quiz over derivs and didn't give partial credit for work shown, so if you missed one part you missed the whole question. AVIOD BROUGHTON!

I had him for Disco II. He probably makes 4 to 5 mistakes daily on the board, and students have to point them out. He is very unsure of himself, and he doesn't actually teach. If you read the book, you'll learn much more than if you listen to him. I got the lowest grade on his tests that I've ever gotten in my entire life. Avoid him if you can.

Worthless. I learned almost nothing while in his class. He wastes time by showing off what he has done in Maple, but when something goes wrong with his script, he falls apart. His tests are increadibly easy. If you are a good self learner, he might be a good option. Otherwise, avoid. NOT recomended.

Dr. Broughton would be a great teacher if you already knew all the material he was teaching you and the purpose of the class was to unlearn it. I come in to class some days and wonder if he kept teaching after we left the previous day.
