Allen's cool, a bang worth the buck. I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM HIM, and his kitties...seriously, born to the Profession, well-placed and I hope he is adequately compensated for it.....

Hard class, but made the subject matter easy to understand and appreciate (this was unexpected). Work hard and you'll be rewarded with a good grade. This is not an easy class, but its very important.

If you come to class often, participate, and listen to his suggestions, you will do well in his class. Not the easiest of classes, but definitely not the hardest. He offers helpful advice during office hours and wants his students to do well.

Not a nice guy. He mocks his students and talks down to them. I'm inclined to sue Loyola over this one.

Chaucer. This class was so hard but so rewarding. Frantzen is THE best English professor at LUC. I had no desire to take this class but I ended up loving it. I learned way more than I had in any other class, he really pushes you. He is super strict about class as well so beware but you will learn so much. HIghly recommended!

Expects you to attend every class and participate quite a bit every day. You'll be fine if you work hard, do pretty much all of the assigned homework, and attend class. He can be intimidating. I felt like the dumbest person in the class at first but I ended up with an A. Don't let him scare you-- he's actually a really smart, nice guy.

Comment:
Thinks himself a modern-day version of medieval knight and clerk but also features dark aspects of The CT's Pardoner. Full of ego, defensiveness. Nothing short of a bully toward students who demonstrate a speck of liberal perspective. Immature man who only goes through outward motions of professionalism. Very disappointing.

Took Dr F's Medieval Lit in early 1990s and I'm still telling others about reading the cycle plays, hearing Beowulf, and being inspired by his passion for teaching, learning, and the literature itself. I recall discussions where Dr F would be excited by our observations/thoughts; I imagined he was learning as he taught. Glad he's still at LUC!

he is a wonderful professor. its obvious that he really knows his stuff. participation in class is really important. he seems a little intimidating at first, but really rather approachable. he also has a website updated after ever class to summarize discussions and announce assignments, which is helpful. recommended; i learned a lot.

Dr. Frantzen's class was the most difficult class I've ever taken. I've never worked so hard for a class in my life. The final exam literarally brought me to tears. However, I was challenged to think creatively and fully invest myself in all of the reading and writing. Plus, I enjoyed the material.

Prof. Frantzen is one of the best at loyola. Although he is really hard, he challenges you & forces you to think for yourself. I'm not the type to participate, but because I sat in the front row, he ALWAYS called on me. (Some might not like this) Take only if you can handle it!

For the first week atleast he was not in class instead he had a grad student who did the picking on of students. He mocked me and others laughed. The teacher and his little sidekick were like watching Dumb and Dumber in slow motion. Seems like they're so insecure they need to pick on others in class

What a jerk this guy is! I hated every minute of that class and he does pick one or two students each semester to pick on and is relentless. Narcissism is an understatement - AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS! I think I would rather shoot myself in the foot as opposed to taking another one of his class!
