I really enjoyed this course. The key to getting a good grade is talking with the professor. Get to know him and want to learn about what he is teaching. He gives you many opportunities to fix your work & you have to be willing to fix it. He is an extremely tough grader so don't feel bad when he marks up your paper.

He is a really good professor. He is a very tough grader and that's what discourages some people. He also makes you work for your grade which isn't something that a lot of students want to do.

He is very nice but sometimes isn't clear in what he wants. Take home essays are the absolute worst! You need to spend a lot of time on them. He is a super tough grader on the essays

Comment:

He's a great teacher, I tutor for his Hist 11 course and its straightforward. Do the note cards well and you'll do fine on midterm and exam. If you participate in lecture and take initiative he will notice and grade you better. My tip for his research papers is to get straight to the point and write as if you're writing a history textbook.

At first I appreciated this class and he seemed to want to push his students further. When I received my second draft of my essay back after having sent it to him multiple times and a hist major grad and a poly sci grad both read over it& I got it back with a C-. I am an A avg student I put the work in and his grading left me feeling discouraged.

If I could give a 0/5 I would. Just terrible. Lectures are long and have no clear point. You are only graded by 3 things, the midterm, research paper, and final. Outdated grading criteria and ridiculous expectations. I was also left disrespectful comments on my research paper. Save yourself the headache and DON'T take this class.

DO NOT TAKE HISTORY WITH HIM. I find him to be a bit disrespectful and rude at times. Im not going to put effort into a class where I feel degraded pretty much every other lecture. Very old school and likes things a specific way, or else hell end up getting into a lecture about listening and not being an idiot. Save your sanity, dont take class

I found that I have been graded less than others even though we had same work. So, expect some bias before signing up. I would not complain because his lectures are good, but nobody would be happy to find themselves being biased by a professor. If you are lucky, you might get better grade than you deserve or vice-versa.

Dr. Sirokey is amazing! Lectures are informative, he loves a student that participates. DO NOT take this class if you have no intention of working hard. Show respect in class, behave like an adult and always keep in contact this will help you succeed. Dr. Sirokey gives students lots of feedback and it may seem overwhelming, but it is helpful.

He's a great instructor. Gives us the opportunity to turn in work early. He'll review it and let us make adjustments before the final do date. This gives us the opportunity to improve on our grades. He'll make adjustments to his schedule to meet with us if we cannot meet him during his office hrs. He's the only one instructor who wished us da best.

his class seems hard in the beginning but honestly its not i would just recommend working on your essay as much as you can before the final draft is due,send him as many rough drafts as you can until you receive the A he likes when students do so. also go to etc for the notecards and your good to go for the midterm and final!

Allen can become a valuable friend to you is you respect the classroom the way he does. Sit in the front, take notes, pay attention, and bring a coffee because his lectures can break the weak. In exchange for this, he outlines his course assignments simply and way ahead of time and offers extra credit for turbo things in for review ahead of time.

Ok so the only reason I passed his class is because I attended all his classes and I had a really helpful and hardworking friend who took his class before me. She gave me a heads up with everything. How to do things a certain ways. And she let me see how she did on her test so I studied off of her work. That's the only reason why I passed.

He is a tough grader, but he lets you know when all the work,on the syllabus, is due so you can turn it in as much as possible, get good feedback, & adjust your work to get an A. If you don't turn in the work early, you will most likely fail bc of how hard he grades. We had 2 pop quizes, a midterm, and a final. His hw is a challenge but not a lot
