I came out of this class knowing so much more about the health care system. Guseva inspired me and I now know what career path I want to go in. She was an amazing lecturer and knew her stuff. 2 disc. leadings in teams in discussion, 2 one-paged papers and 3 exams. If you pay attention, enjoy the material and read most of the articles, you'll pass.

This was an amazing class. I came out knowing much more about healthcare and the market. Decent amount of work, you need the textbook because she pulls questions from it that aren't really covered in lecture-so do the readings. 1 paper, 2 midterms and a final. Discussion is mandatory. Not very difficult to do well.

really amazing professor. seriously brilliant but the final exam is NOT cumulative. no matter what she tells you- don't bother studying the past material. you're just going to waste your time.

Very intelligent professor. Readings are interesting. Style is mostly lecture with some student participation. As long as you keep up with the readings and go to class you will be fine. Good professor.

Comment:
The topics discussed are fairly interesting but delivered terribly. Long, dry, boring lectures, followed by more of the same in discussion. Tests were incredibly vague and grading was very arbitrary (No answer Key or good explanation when points taken off). Certainly in the Bottom 3 classes ive taken so far.

Prof Guseva changed the way I feel about medical markets! She is an incredible professor and genuinely cares about her students. She's a brilliant woman, and encourages ALL students to participate every day. One of the few profs I know who take the time to listen to her students. Best in class discussions I've ever had. She cares. I'd give her a 10

Very interesting class, esp. if you're thinking of getting into health care. Class consists of four 1 page papers, 3 midterms and a final. Get the book. The exams aren't too bad, but the T/F can sometimes be tricky. Guseva is a little aloof and stoic, and her humor is kind of forced. But she's def. knowledgeable on the subject.

Loved this class. Took it because I wanted to get a comprehensive idea of the healthcare system, its flaws, etc. People tend to think of her as biased, which she is, but for the most part she's right. Readings are sometimes tedious but overall the class is great.

A fantastic teacher who is clearly passionate about what she is teaching and very well educated on the topic of Health Care. Take this class to find out what is wrong and right with US HC and HC around the world. I've had so many bad teachers that use PPT, but she has perfected the art and does not make class boring. I highly recommend this class.

Really interesting class. She really knows what she is talking about. Class is not difficult, exams are not cumulative. There are two short papers that were easy to write. Buy the old edition of the textbook, it's way cheaper. Overall, this is a good class.

Very interesting and inspires activism towards health care. Sometimes seems like propaganda, but I still believed her. Not really necessary to go to class unless you're watching a movie.

Definately not the class you look forward to going to every other day, but relatively easy. Her second test was drastically diff. from her first which was annoying, and she likes T/F which can be difficult. Overall, an easy class because she posts all slides on courseinfo but she tries to make the tests difficult to make up for it.

This class is extremely interesting. She is a good prof. She teaches straight from her readings so just do them (they arent even that long. Her tests are straing from the readings and lectures, and she always gives you options on what questions you want to answer...Take the class its worth it!

This class was SO interesting and so was most of the reading (which really was not that much for a Soc class.) The class is too big I think though and should be more than a 200 level course. She does a great job showing how awful the US Healthcare system is and she makes you (or maybe just me?) want to do something about it.

Very heavy workload and you really need to read everything. Heavy focus on Russia. Encourages class discussions. Good if you like this sort of stuff.

I'll save you wasting a whole semester by telling you all you what we learned: the US health care system sucks. There, now you don't have to read 1000s of pages, listen to boring lectures that jump all over the place and be the victim of arbitrary grading. Not the worst class ever, but easily one of my least favorite at BU.

This class isnt at all what it seems, its actually about Russia's transitioning economy, not developing countries. Lectures difficult to follow. The tests are essays and aren't as hard as the material overall. Weekly quizzes. She is nice but the class is boring and misleadingly titled.

Very nice and helpful. Title of the class is misleading (it's called Developing Countries but it's actually Russia and Eastern Europe), but the subject matter is interesting. She's always late to class, but her discussions are good and the tests and quizzes aren't a problem if you do the reading.
