She's incredibly condescending. I've gone to her for office hours, I've spoken to her in class and the fact of the matter is, that she's just really not that nice of a person. She started to take points off on the 3rd paper on things I'd been doing the whole semester she never made remarks of before. Worked insanely hard for a "C".

I was nervous about taking her class (The Literary Fairy Tale) after reading the reviews - especially because this was a condensed summer class - but I really enjoyed it. Prof. Rutledge is a tough but fair grader who is extremely knowledgeable and expects students to work hard. As another student told me: Her classes are tough but worth it.

She is the absolute worst, I took one of her classes a few semesters ago and I have regretted it ever since. She has a PHD from Yale and grades you as if you are supposed to have one to. She is not helpful, she is condescending, and does not care about her students. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!

It's been several years since I've taken her, but I actually had her for two courses at the graduate level. One of the best professors I ever had! Her lectures were fascinating; she's so knowledgeable. Yes, perhaps she's a tough grader, but you're in college to *learn*, that's a good thing. She pushes you, and I was a better student for having her

Rutledge is a knowledgeable professor, but please try to AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! She is a tough tough grader!!! She expects PhD level papers. Her handwriting is illegible so you can't read her comments on your paper. She is rude at times to her students and VERY opinionated. She gives unannounced reading quizzes every now and then. Good luck!

So the truth is if you have an interest in english she is ABSOLUTELY the teacher to go with. She is extremely knowledgeable and loves literature. However, if you're looking for an easy class to take just for credit, this is not it. You will have to work very hard in the class and read very old texts and write multiple essays.

I'm not sure what all the hubub is. I found Professor Rutledge extremely informed and informative. When I missed class being in the hospital, she was more than helpful for me to make up assignments. I actually found the papers engaging and her expectations clear. They weren't easy, but her grading wasn't awful. Overall, she's quirky and crazy smart

One of the hardest professors I've had, but she's top-notch. I was often frustrated but it was worth it. REALLY knows her stuff inside and out. If you're willing to work, you'll learn a lot. Don't take the class if you don't love the field.

DONT TAKE HER CLASS. There's nothing good about this lady both as a person and as a teacher. She's rude to her students, talks down to us and is very creepy. As a teacher she is terrible and is not interested in helping her students at all. She is an extremely tough grader on papers and you cant read her comments. Somehow pulled a B out of my ass.

She is being horrible. I have never worked so hard for D's before. I took her advice and went to the writing center and it didn't help. She is an extremely tough grader ( and not in a good way) I did not learn anything from her. I have brought up the issue to my department regarding her. STAY AWAY

The worst teacher I have ever had. Her syllabus is worded to confuse you on what she expects from her papers. There is no academic guidelines she uses to grade your papers it based on her opinion "I don't like that ADJ". If you signed up for her class withdraw ASAP and take another professor it's not worth it. She is not helpful at all. RUN!!!!

Dr. Rutledge is a terrible teacher. She loves to talk about how much she has read, even if it is irrelevant to the class. She assigns a ridiculous amount of homework, and her written comments on assignments are illegible. I am a straight A student, and the best I could do was a B. Good luck if you take her class.

Rutledge has a brilliant mind and this is clear by just listening to her speak. However, she's one of those professors that wants each and every student to think just like her. If you don't, you're screwed. I've always been a really great writer but she's an insanely harsh grader. Her essay topics are so unclear. I wouldn't recommend this course.

She is the worst teacher I have ever known. Very tough and mean. Her requirements are not clear and her grading are designed to reduce the students grades. She does not care about her student's participation and creativity. I am very upset I took her class without checking her rate. I will find a way to take the class again to improve my grades.

Her class was interesting. She is very intelligent and has a wicked sense of humor that I really enjoyed. Requirements for papers could be written more clearly. If you take this course, be prepared to learn a lot about religious doctrine--I didn't feel like I could participate at times. Also, she is a hard grader, and there's not much to grade.

Very tough on grading, opinionated (but aren't we all), and frustrating at times. But a very smart person with a wealth of knowledge that not many people possess. If you take her class be ready to ask to meet with her before papers are due. She will tell you straight up if it needs to be done over.

Has two different syllabi (one online and one in paper form) that say completely different things. Does not specify when assignments are due. Does not give enough time to finish books. Gets grumpy if no one in the class knows the answer, instead of realizing that that should tell her something.

Another prof who doesn't let her students out on time. If the class is supposed to end at 1:15, it ends at ONE-FIFTEEN. Not 1:20. Not 1:25. Students have other obligations, and they should not have to delay just because the prof can't manage his or her time wisely.
