I took this class 3 years ago and I'm honestly still mad about it. He is an intelligenteducated man, but his intolerance of opposing viewpoints makes him seem ignorant. He is disrespectful of his students and treats them like children. I aced the class, but his personality is so abhorrant that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

If you leave BU without taking Bacevich, you made a huge mistake. He's the best kind of professor-- demanding and rewarding. He will introduce you to an America of realpolitic and you might not like what you see. Drop the word 'isolationism' from your vocabulary, do your reading, and you'll be just fine!

Bacevich was my favorite professor throughout all of college. If you take his class, you need to plan on having your ideas challenged at some point, and also plan on him calling you out at some point. So be prepared. This is not the kind of class where you show up and learn a bunch of facts. He's there to challenge your worldview. He's brilliant.

come to class and come prepared, because he will call on you at some point and knowing the material makes discussion infinitely more rewarding. will pick on certain people (and ideas) but just take it and give a little in return to earn his respect. not entirely sure that he read the final essays, but I'll take the grade

I've never been in an AM class for an hour and a half and not wanted to leave.. until this class. Bacevich is the best prof at BU. He's extremely demanding but so knowledgeable, witty and excited to teach that he makes you want to succeed. He picks on you randomly (or if you're me, every 5 minutes) but his style is extremely helpful. Love him!

Great professor. Really demanding and challenging, but that's what you came to college for, right? Come to class prepared because he WILL call on you. He's intimidating at first but once you get used to him you'll realize how truly nice he is. Not to mention how humble he is, so don't bring up his books trying to score brownie points or anything.

One of the best professors at BU. Amazing lecturer. Learned so much from him. Lectures are crystal clear. Come to class prepared to answer questions. If you walk in to class late he will tear you to shreds.

He is easily the best teacher that I have had at BU. Although he is demanding, you learn alot. He is a brilliant lecturer and going to class is enjoyable. Definitely recommended if you are not a slacker.

He's very knowledgeable and you will learn a lot because if you don't do the readings or show up your grades will suffer because of attendance counting for a significant portion of your grade (by the way of pop quizes). However, he's extremely arrogant and has a very limited point of view. If he disagrees with you he will grade your work down.

I agree with previous posters that he is a tough professor. He is very pro-military and rather intolerant of people who are not. my class was required as a IR major and i have to say he is not one of the professors i enjoy.

I am one of the bad students from his class, I don't go, I don't do the readings, and I say asanine things in his class. He hate me, and he'll probally fail me, but I have to say, I still respect him as a prof. He's awesome. He hugged my head, after I said something stupid. He is very clear though, I know exactly why I am failing. :-)

I learned more in this one class than in all my previous IR classes combined! Prof. Bacevich is demanding but very clear and incredibly knowledgeable. He's certainly intimidating at first, but even I'm back for another course this semester! You end up doing all the reading not just bc you have to, but bc it's worth it. Take the challenge!
