I've taken Printmaking 1 and 2 with this professor and it was awesome! Loved the curriculum and I learn a completely new art form, but it isn't easy. Now, I'm not saying it's impossible but there is a bit of a learning curve. The professor is really good about guiding through it though, 10/10!

Comment:

It's clear he has passion for what he does and tries to encourage you to do the same. The projects are clearly explained and he writes a schedule on the whiteboard for you to stay on task and on time. He is always helpful and has funny stories to education and entertain. Definitely a professor to have for all art students.

Professor Downey is awesome. I took him for Painting I because I needed another art elective. It was great. I am not a very good painter however, I am happy to say I am much better thanks to his critques. Attendence is mandatory as well as turning in the homeworks he deducts 10 points for every class it's late.

downey is a very helpful teacher and knows what he is talking about. i took him for painting 2, and learned 3 different techniques of painting that i had never learned before. his course is very organized and starts out pretty basic, gradually getting more challenging, which i found to be very good. you will learn a lot from this guy, so take him!

I've taken Downey for Design I, Drawing II and will take him for Printmaking in the future. He's an amazing professor. He grades based on improvement, and he does so fairly. He will give back what you put in. I've taken every art professor at Valencia and he's by far the best in the department. Don't be lazy and you'll be fine.

I definitely learned a lot and greatly improved my drawing. Nice teacher, attendance is mandatory. I didn't find him very helpful if you need help drawing something. A little vague when you ask questions about your work. Doesn't give a lot of feedback while you're working. Class was fun and challenging.

Amazing teacher. I've had him for a few classes. He reallyyy challenges you and makes you think and there's quite a few homework assignments but it's all worth it. His design 1 class is a lot of fun, I gotta say that one was my favorite. TAKE HIM, trust me. And yes, I do think he's kinda cute.

Great guy. That is all there is too it. Easy person to talk to... all these socially retarded people complaining that he doesn't help... just ask him! Horrible teacher. I had couple of semesters ago. Disrespectful to students. He definitely have a short man syndrome. Don't take him. In his typical class, he tell you what needs to be done and leaves you to do it. Gone most of the time doing who knows what. He's not even in the class room to give you pointers. He is useless.

I dislike this instructor. Give minimal instructions and pointers. Make you buy crap load of stuff. Drawing papers he requested are enormous, so now I have to rent a truck to carry the board large enough to put underneath my enormous paper I have buy for the project given. I say, go with Prof. Schmalstig, if you are smart.
