Comment:
Dr. French has been one of the best professors I have had at Albion. He is a wonderful professor and makes his office hours available to everyone at any time. I think he is the best organic chemistry professor Albion has and I would definitely recommend him. His tests were fair, and he gives a lot of partial credit which is very helpful.

This was a 1/4 unit 100 level course, but the workload rivaled that of a 300 level full unit course. Average reading for one week was about 60 pages, with an 800 word paper due weekly. The course was poorly structured, and I don't feel that I really learned anything at all.

Do not take this class unless you know how to self study and have prior knowledge of organic chemistry! Definitely a teacher to avoid. Almost half the class withdraws. Although he is very helpful at office hours, but still not worth it because his quizzes and exams are extremely difficult .

Nice, but occasionally harder than he should be. He made us learn several extremely complicated mechanisms that were not in the book completely on our own, then put them on an exam. Teaches things not necessarily in the book, and changes mechanisms from the book version. OK if you learn well on your own, but at Albion, he might be your best choice.

Dr. French was fun at times (most did not understand his rather cheesy jokes and references to Monty Python and the Holy Grail) but he was only there to help those who asked for it in the Lab. It would have been nice to have him walking around looking over our shoulders and giving clear instructions instead of waiting for us to mess up first.

Highly unlikely you will do well. I put so much effort into his studying for his class that all my other classes suffered, and I only got a B in his class. Because my other classes suffered--so I could succeed in his class--I got two other B's as well. Thus, Dr. Andrew French is directly responsible for my first 3 B's in college. AVOID HIM!

Horrible. Expects you to know everything before he teaches it. His pop quizzes are generally over difficult concepts in the reading that you haven't been taught yet. When you see him for help, he acts like you should already know what you are asking. His tests are way more difficult than the practice problems he gives you. Take McCaffrey or Harris.

He was alright but it seems like he doesn't care at all about how his students are doing. He is kind of arrogant too.

Horrible. Made me want to drop the first day. Thank goodness there are other orgo profs that actually care about all the students and not just the favorites.

Great prof, makes class fun. Really expects you to learn the stuff, and so his tests are tricky by his own admission. But you'll definitely learn the material better and have more fun with him. Very helpful and willing to give you as much time as you need.

Well, what can we say about Andy? Bit of a womanizer, a very good chemist, liable to celebrate important occasions by blowing things up. Good knowledge of local culture this side of the water. Welsh Rugby Rules!!!

Often gives quizzes on material he hasn't talked about because he expects you to go over it on your own. His lecture is difficult to follow. A very tough grader compared to other professors who teach organic chem.
