Dr. Nestler is a good teacher. His lectures are well-organized and very clear. There is a ton of homework, and it's all fair game to appear on tests. I stayed up until 4am multiple times to catch up on homework. You will learn a lot, and you will work a lot. If you are willing to work, you will do well in his class.

Grading is fair and clear. The best way to study for his class is to take notes during lectures. Additionally, reviewing hyperbolic functions may be helpful.

Great teacher! I'm a high school student, and wanted to take ODE to enhance my understanding of math. Dr. Nestler helped me do just that. He provided a very clear lecture and was always happy to help students with any of their questions. Make sure to understand the concepts well before the tests in order to succeed. Tests determine entire grade.

I have never had a professor as hard as this one before. Never have I had points taken off for a correct answer because they didn't like your work. Never have I had 10/11 of the points on an answer removed because I forgot a negative sign alone. If you enrolled in one of his classes, drop them immediately. It's a guaranteed fail.

If you want a guaranteed fail, this is the professor for you. One small mistake in NOTATION can cost you 90% of the points on a problem. Do not take this professor if you do not want to try your absolute best only to get a C.

There is a possibility of the same individual using some type of IP/VPN mods to write these similar great ratings. Although I passed, and now am pursing masters in aerospace, Nestler is the one professor I would never recommend to anyone. period. Strange seeing how he is still teaching after all these years. You will do better with other professors

Dr. Nestler is a very attentive professor. He knows a lot about mathematics, and the best part is he teaches really well. Calculus can be frustrating, but he is very accessible outside out class. I enjoyed his detailed lectures, and going to his office hours. It was so kind of him to write me a recommendation letter for my grad school application.

Late post but this is for the students who are considering to take Nestler for math. I am expressing my freedom of speech, Nestler is indeed a 'dream killer'. Dont get fooled by the newer 'good' ratings. I wasted a one whole year because I decided to take him, I had no choice. I thought it was me who lacked math, I found out that it wasnt.

I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Nestler for the entire Calculus sequence at SMC, Math2/7/8/11. While his exams can be very difficult, this is simply the price of admission that one pays for such an exceptional learning experience. He conveys the sheer beauty of Mathematics, and facilitates a deep and profound understanding of the material.

If you really want to learn calculus, I highly recommend Professor Nestler. I found his strict grading and detailed feedback to be helpful in solidifying important concepts. His course demanded a lot of work from the students, which forced us to truly understand the material. I am very thankful I ended up in Professor Nestler's section.

Get ready to teach yourself. Lectures will leave you more confused if you do not watch other course related videos. Knowing how to apply the theorems to test questionnaires will not suffice with him. Big name degrees do not justify his ability to "educate". He may be incredibly intelligent in the field of mathematics; however, not to teach.

Anyone taking this level math class likely has even higher math in their future. Prof Nestler's approach really helps you develop the mathematical maturity you'll need later in your academic career. His exams are challenging, but not unreasonably so. I highly recommend him for any math class at SMC.

Nestler is tough and he will make you work for your grade, but it is worth it. Make sure to do the homework from the textbook. I used the textbook between exams to gain confidence and then focused on the lecture notes (in class examples and theorems) and old exams when studying for a test. Good luck.

Hes a very clear grader. He outlines his expectations from day 1. Are his exams tough? Yes. Are you required to do homework? No. He gives a ton of homework problems to cover all your bases for exams. Always available for office hours and he responds to emails for homework. Instead of doing homework as an assignment, its more like exam preparation

First of all, hats off to you to those who passed his class. I have been under many different professors who demands such "precision" from his students. However, they were good educators. Math majors, Nestler is for you. Others, please save your time and your stress, and choose another. Deep understanding of mathematics is required. It is a warning

Professor Nestler has a fun sense of humor, was careful in his wording of concepts during lectures, and demands precision from his students. His class was challenging, but I felt it forced us to develop good math habits. If you want an easy A this may not be the class for you, but if you want to deeply learn the material I recommend this professor.

He teaches well, but he wastes a lot of time explaining the concept instead of going over different questions and examples. If you are taking your class with him, you should know that he considers your answers all wrong if you don't solve it his way. you can only adopt!!!

Let this be a warning to those currently considering taking Nestler's Calc 3 class, just don't. The consensus here is that he's professional, cold and unfeeling, but he isn't even professional. He submits grades last in his department and teaches with the enthusiasm of a prison inmate, and has had trouble with the department chair multiple times.
