Lectures weren't structured well or planned out. Throughout the entire quarter, only lectured 4 times, the rest of term he'd let us work on our assignments. This wasn't helpful, as we ended up spending a lot more time teaching ourselves the topics. Forgot about our midterm, gave it to us before finals week. Homework was long, graded fairly though

While he taught astronomy well, 181/182 were different. He believes students learn better teaching themselves, so he’d show the concept behind something, do a simple example problem, but then he’d make the homework insanely hard, and would offer little help. When I asked for it, he just [condescendingly] asked me “well how to do think you do it?”

Homework was done online and due before the concepts were explained in class. Reviews were not during class hours, and the final was scheduled differently then stated on safari. Had to basically teach myself, most in the class felt the same way.

I absolutely love this class~ Prof. Piacsek is so awesome :D He's so funny and excited and I think he's a wonderful professor. He was more than willing to answer questions and supplementary material was almost always helpful. The class is kind of difficult, but I think it's overall worth it especially with him as a prof :D

Dr. Piacsek is a really helpful professor and a really nice guy. He made the class entertaining. That said, he can be a strict professor although he is a generous grader.

I really enjoyed this class, but I am a music major. I thought Dr. Piacsek did a good job of explaining the basics of sound and building the later lectures around the basic concepts and how they relate to each other. He can be confusing at times, but he is mostly good and always willing to help.

He doesn't use a textbook which makes everything very difficult. If you have an interest in music and physics take this class, otherwise just walk away! He also expects a lot of writing for a writing course, and the tests don't seem to go along with the lectures.

He is pretty incompetent and bad with numbers and math. He is confusing, and is horrible at lecturing. Do not take this class unless you REALLY love astronomy.

He really likes sound/wave stuff and tries to be helpful, but he isn't very prepared for class so a lot of time is wasted.
