This class is one of the hardest yet most rewarding I've taken as a CS major. This class will definitely make you a better problem solver and will also show you how to implement data structures at a basic level. Homework doesn't always need to be turned in right away, but be careful: if you procrastinate you may be in for many sleepless nights.

Andy is good solid choice for Data Structures CS222. He'll get ya so familiar with recursion. Quizzes on Fridays. As normal for Andy, you can submit your assignments over-and-over (which is fantastic but allows for harder assignments.) ProTip: learn to unit test yo stuff, bro! 5 projects-50 9 quizzes-10 mid term-40 end term-40 final exam-40

Dr. Poe went into this class for iOS with very little knowledge about how to program an iPhone. You would typically expect the professor to have a clue about their class but he lacked the knowledge and was learning from a book. Show up to classes every time you can and you might expect to pass. Unless you have to, do not take Andy Poe for a class.

He's what you would probably call a cool nerdy guy. He gets on your nerves sometimes with blunt humor but I will say that I actually really like this highly intelligent guy. He is not always the best at one on one help with questions but what he lacks there, he makes up for in his talent with lecturing. His assignments can be hard. Ask questions.

Didn't really go over code, went off topic a ton. Don't ever take him unless you have to. Is there very helpful and expects you to know the code before the class even begins even if you have never coded in that language before. TERRIBLE

Very interesting and quirky professor that has no problem letting you know how much he loves his job. Grading process was very specific and transparent. Taking this course for a non-CompSci major might be a bit difficult if you're looking for an easy A, but he allows unlimited redos on the homework which comprise a large portion of the grade.

Very good professor, gave practice exams before every major exam so we knew exactly what would be on it. Threw a pizza party for us before the final exam.

Harder than I imagined. I thought the programs were difficult, but he does let you continually resubmit them within a few days to get a better grade. If you have questions, email or go his office hours. He is very helpful when you don't understand. However he talks non-stop about superheros and sometimes sings. Very entertaining and funny

Terrible professor. Never failed any other classes but his. Assignments are too hard with little class time spent explaining what you need to know to complete them. He wants to share his knowledge, but he is extremely rude if you do not immediately understand. Other CS profs often can't complete his assignments. Unfortunately tenured.

Poe is one of those professors who expects you to get things right, and isn't going to hold your hand through the assignment. He teaches with great clarity (all assignments are outlined in a document). For those who are complaining about lack of feedback, they obviously didn't listen to his instruction. He can also be contacted digitally easily.

Ouch. No book. Doesn't teach much code, spends more time bragging. His office literally stinks and is so filled with trash that you can't enter. Too busy with other things to help with overly hard and vague assignments. Will fail you for missing a single character, autograder rules all. (probably too busy). Just got tenure letter, ouch.

Does this site allow bad comments? Worst prof. I've ever had. Uses an auto-grader and will fail you without ever looking at your program if the auto-grader doesn't like it, he won't tell you what machine/format the auto-grader is compiling with. Uses no book, I spend hours and hours on Google looking for information. CS students: go elsewhere.

Great professor! Explains programming concepts rather than giving you the answer in code, allowing you to discover how to program something rather than do it because you were told to. Also: He could secretly be Superman, as he never takes off his glasses.

Awesome professor who is always willing to help. You have to go to class to keep up, though because the programs he assigns can be tricky. One of the best at NMU for sure.

Very hard prof, entertaining lectures, but needs to stay on topic. He explains broad concepts in class, but never really touches code writing, which is what we need to learn. Assigns too many and too difficult of projects, once you're behind, you can't catch up. I never had a chance in this class.

Andy is a great professor. I didnt know anything about HTML before taking his class and now I love making webpages. He makes class interesting, even though he does get off subject quite a bit. He is an awesome teacher though and very willing to help outside of the classroom setting. Definately take Poe if you have a chance!

Genuinely smart and caring professor. Knows what he is doing for sure, but helps you understand it as well. Very understanding of isssues outside the classroom. Grading is fair and assignments and quizzes are all explained ahead of time. I knew nothing of computers before this class, and he has understood that and helped me out a lot.
