I had him for separation processes back in 2005. I then obtained a MS and worked for 6 years. Now I'm preparing for PE exam. Distillation is the most important part of the exam and there is a lot of explicit concepts and techniques required. I am spending lots of time to re-learn this only cuz Perna was the only prof preached only about himself.

Even if you try and attention he will only confuse you because he confuses himself. If he isn't confusing you he is telling you a story. To pass with a good grade you have to teach yourself the course by reading the textbook and doing the example problems. Exams are pretty straight forward and you just need to own to pass with an A.

This guy is the worst that NJIT has to offer. After a few sitting in his class, I ramdonly though of switching out of ChE!! i just gave up on this guy, oh dont worry, same goes for Joe too. if u pass the class with full understanding, congrats.... but if u passed the class and u had noo idea what was going on.. good luck with the other ChE classes!

Taking his class is going back to first grade and re-writing the alphabet into your notebook. It's the easiest class you will ever take because he bases everything off the book. He doesn't know what he's talking about and can't even follow an example problem. Wont learn much except every detail of his life. I know more stories than fluid flow.

He cann't remember even one equation from the book, and he want us to solve hard problems in the exams. He doesn't make the exams and grad the exams. Joe is the one who makes the exams and grad the exams. When Joe grad the exams, he never even Write how many point he gave for each problems and what the wrong with the prob. Perna is useless. !AVOID!

If you take this guy, your chemical enginnering background will be absolutely zero in sepI. i have no idea why NJIT refuses to let him go. he tried to work an example from the book and couldnt even finish it. he is always unperared. you ask him a question,he would tell you to see Joe who also got fired from NJIT, but he is Perna's assistant.

this guy cant teach crap... AVOID HIM!!!!! engineers should at least know the basics in fluid flow. i took fluid flow with armenante and he gave us real engineering challenging questions, he was the best prof in explaining things to us. in the end Perna is useless

Had him for CHE 260 and 360. Fluid flow was fine, because all you need to know is how to calculate Reynolds' #. But he really taught nothing in CHE 360. When I took 460(sep II), prof. Sirkar was surprised that the whole class didnt know the basics about separations. If you have Perna, you will suffer from labs and Plant Design where you need sep.

i love this guy. cool teacher. hes harsh on some students..but its tough love. he really wants you to learn every little detail regarding the subject. idk why so someone would think hes a bad teacher..he's def up there with Dr. Hanesian..some of the best teachers left at NJIT. Chemical Engineers walk on water!!

He goes over stuff very slowly. Usually it's a waste of time going to his class, he doesn't take attendance anyway. He will tell you what page the exam is up to(usually 10-20 pages) and make sure you read a lil bit since the exams are open book. If you do bad go QQ to him he will make a makeup. He doesn't boost your grade if ur on the border.

A very good professor overall. He is not so textbook and follow all the rules like other professors but instead he conducts his classes the way he sees fit. Teaches many life lessons in class that sometimes make no sense whatsoever but are hilarious. I learned a lot in his class and it was a good experience overall. Take him

He's not a bad guy. However, he's a story teller. he keeps the class so interesting so that you would stay awake. BUT, the biggest problem is that he doesn't give enough examples in the class. If he wants to explain a example in class, he would get you confused. If you really want a good grade in class, you really have to study a lot from the book
