The only successful thing she did was make me loathe learning about the area of the world that I am most interested in. Please do not take her.

The workload for this class was absolutely ridiculous, especially given that it's an introductory course. Intense weekly quizzes on long, dense readings were painful in addition to rigid expectations on essays. Blum was nice, but left little room for outside opinion and made it difficult to feel any desire to put effort into learning the material.

Extremely difficult and boring class. The textbook is a very dense history of many Latin American countries; I'm an avid reader and the readings were torture for me. She's a nice professor, will help when necessary, and is very intelligent and knowledgable. That being said, discussions she leads are long and nearly impossible to follow.

She's a super smart but challenging teacher. Page long summaries of the chapters you read are due every class period. If you miss class you can't turn them in. The papers were my biggest stressor this semester but I was SO PROUD when I got As on them.

Nice lady. Very rigid grader though, no room for messing up! She is very passionate about this subject and knows it well. Assignments are weekly and consist of reading a chapter and discussion in class. lots of in-class group work and going up to the board. Tests are all take home and have to be done very thoroughly.

A lot of reading so if u don't like to read DO NOT TAKE HER. Nevertheless she is a good professor, her tests are not hard at all and even if u don't do the readings u can have an idea what was it about since she would go over it in class. in other words, she okay,so there is nothing to be afair of exept for the readings ^_^.

this class is very hard and very demanding. if you are looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. there are a lot of assignments, and the reading is very neccessary. she grills you every class. the papers are graded harshly, there are a lot of projects and assignments. i got A's in all of my 4 other classes. this one i got a B and put in the most work.

She is very passionate about the subject, but I found the class not helpful / interesting at all. Discussion was teacher-led and it was overall boring: boring "discussion", boring texts, boring assignments.

prof blum pulls together interesting topics and teaches new analytical concepts. i like how she focuses on issues of race and class. she is a little crazy with the handouts and has VERY SPECIFIC regulations for her papers, which left little room to really dive in to your point. unfortunately, class discussion is almost entirely teacher-led.

The latin american history class Blum taught was very insightful, the class was intense with reading and class work, but i felt that it was important to the vital frame work to the course.
