Comment:

Takes attendance every day so you have to go. Very knowledgeable, but so much material given, it's hard to keep up. I found the outside reading to be ridiculous and excessive. Allows you to submit drafts on the writing assignments, and almost everything is take-home/open book but still need to take excessive notes in order to do well. Hard class

Great professor! You can send in a draft for the 2 writing assignments and get feedback. Quizes are the only thing you have to memorize information for. The exams are essay and pretty easy, you get to write a page front and back with facts to use. I read the textbook, but as long as you take notes, your good. I'm expecting a high B or A.

Not a fan of her. Incredibly pompous. Extremely hard grader and really does not care for her students. I went to her office hours to find out how to improve my papers, and she took it as a personal attack on her teaching style. WORST professor I have had at the school and I have also had may fair share of mediocre professors.

Extremely hard grader. Not only this, but probably the most pompous professor Ive met in the university, and I have had to sit through my fair share of windbags. Essays are hard, quizzes arent easy if you read, and grades essays like shes an ENGL400 professor. I LOVE history, but she made it difficult to keep an interest in the material.

Dont listen to any of these previous comments. The class is painful to go to, and she takes attendance everyday so you have to go. No matter how much work I put in I go a C, if you are okay with this then this is the class for you and its not that hard because everything is open book. BUT that is most definitely not code for EASY.

Professor Boylan is a great professor. Her lectures were very interesting and she made the class enjoyable! The reading was very minimal if you followed along in class and took notes, the 3 quizes were easy. She allowed cheat sheets that got me through the 3 exams and the 3 papers were very easy as well. I completely recommend this class!

Dr. Boylan is very passionate, knowledgeable and friendly to students. She makes students work hard, but you come out of the class learning more about how to write scholarly papers and gain an interesting understanding of history topics covered in the course. She makes you work but class is enjoyable and fascinating every time!

I didn't to take a US history course and when I read reviews, they were very mixed. She is not such a tough grader and all exams are essays, she is very knowledgeable and is passionate about the subject. If you go to class and take good notes, you don't need the textbook. Plus you can bring a cheat sheet to exams. She also happens to be funny.

She is a VERY tough grader! Shes nice and all, but when you email her, she isn't very understanding or helpful. There is a lot of reading and writing in this class. So if you are looking for an easy class, don't take this one!

Interesting, engaging, and easy. What more could you ask for? Everything is open-book, she's extremely knowledgeable, and I honestly enjoyed her class from start to finish. Would definitely take her again.

Would not take her again! If you take her, GO TALK TO HER!!! Take home tests but she's a tough grader. My grade increased a lot for talking to her. Still I worked my butt off and only got a B. If you like women's studies you'll do well but if you don't have the background knowledge you won't.

REALLY tough grader but class may be worth it because u learn so much! As well she is AMAZING lecturer and so interesting. she's really nice and helpful. I enjoyed her class and personality and it is one of those classes where I still refer back to what I learnt. You want to hate her b/c she grades so tough, but she is too damn nice!
