She is a very good professional but is also very traditional and is by the book. In essays if she tells you to add something like an OED definition do it. Make a point of meeting with her to discuss assignments as she is very particular in what she wants. Also, she will mark the essays on the exam as if you are writing in a research essay. W

Comment:

Excellent prof. Incredibly helpful, and willing to slow down lecture to clarify points. She's understanding for extensions, and really lets the class take control of the discussion. Don't expect to receive much feedback however - most of our tutorial group still hasn't received any work back, and the class is half over.

Very very nice lady (outside of class). She is very quiet and her lectures are loaded with a lot of information which is not necessarily on the exam. She is very passionate for her subject but it doesn't really show - you really need to speak with her outside of class to get this. I love her dry British humor. She is also "very by the book"

Comment:

Her class is a great survey of English literature. She is extremely knowledgeable and makes a point of hearing your input! A fair marker as well as an overall friendly and approachable person, I strongly recommend her as a prof.

She's the Department Head and HER course is mandatory? Shame. If you love English, she can turn you off it. What may seem like "egality" to her seems like rampant feminism to the rest. Takes way too long with Medieval stuff. Spends too much time on history - stuff most students at this level already know. SUmmarizes instead of analyzes. Dull!

Comment:

Ann is a nice lady, for the most part but her expectations are ridiculously high for fourth year students. She expects our papers to be written as though we are PH.D candidates. It takes months for her to return any marked work and is a very difficult marker. However, she always gives the option of rewriting assignments and essays.

Her lectures are not thrilling, and she does tend toward plot summary, but overall very helpful to the student interested in the course genre and novels. There is a flustered feeling about her which makes her likeable and approachable; a rare quality in a prof, modesty. Slow pace makes info stick.

um, NOT THE BEST PROF. She's deceiving--she comes across as a nice, sweet, frail old lady, but underneath, she's got a heart of STEEL!! I worked my ARSE off in her class and made it out with a lousy C+. I'm a straight-A student!
