This was my favorite class my first semester at XU. Professor McCarty knows how to lead a discussion and make everyone feel comfortable expressing their opinions. She balances depth with humor, and cares about her students. Highly recommend.

THIS WAS AN HONORS COURSE. McCarty is a tough professor. She's super smart and also really kind. I wasn't the best at English, but she helped me and you have to work hard if you want an A. She deserves nothing but respect from her students because she is so direct and clear with her intentions and teaching methods that if you commit you'll do well.

There are small writing assignments for every class and 4 papers. Class is discussion based, so participation matters. You have to work very hard for your grade. Wasn't really a fan of her but that might just be because I'm not an english major.

I had her for my first year seminar, and she's a lot of fun. The class is a lot of little assignments and a couple huge projects. The projects are worth a lot of your grade. She is really fun and crazy and looks exactly like Ms. Frizzle . It's pretty easy to get a decent grade in her class if you just put in the effort.

I had her for first year seminar and she was great. The class consisted of a lot of readings, class discussions every class, quizzes over every fictional reading, online responses over every nonfictional reading, 2 newspaper articles and responses due weekly, 1 project with a presentation, and 1 final paper with a presentation. There is no final.

She gives two papers, a midterm, and a final. The midtermfinal are easy fill-in questions about what was discussed in class so take good notes. She only has you read 2 books. Go to her office for papers, and DON'T BS she will give you a poor grade. Gives short 10 question quizzes each class about the short storybook readings. Very Nice and funny.

She gives four papers BUT she gives homework packets that are a complete waste of time, they are busy work. Go to her office hours for each paper, and show improvement from the draft to the final and you will most likely score higher. She grades harder in ENGL 101 than for her other classes. Sh also allows you to revise one paper.

Love her! Love her homework packets for points, and assignments going in are all 100% if you meet the length; really interesting and relevant English and assignments; only four papers, and she'll read through them before hand if you want and let you know if you're good or not; work days, plenty of time for papers, always there in class for any ?'s.

This class is very heavily based on you reading material on your own outside of class, writing one page papers on the material and then coming to class to talk about it. You have to show up to class her attendance policy is no joke. don't get behind on assignments. very good teacher, but you have to work hard for your grade

One of my favorite profs at Xavier. She's hilarious and you can tell she loves what she does by how enthusiastic her lectures are. I loved going to class. As long as you do the readings (she gives easy quizzes almost every class), it's not hard. She's kind of tough on papers, but not too bad. She doesn't force participation. Definitely take her!

Class isn't necessary but after 5 misses she starts to take off from your grade. The papers weren't too bad if you went and talked to her at her office hours. People complained about the class if you waited until the last minute to do the assisnments, but if you keep up with the work it's probable you'll het a B+ to an A. She is also very funny!

She is very eccentric, but what else do you expect from a poet? I absolutely loved her and Creative Writing: Poetry. I always looked forward to the class and I came out of there a better poet and writer overall.
