I had this Professor for my Art Appreciation class and I'll tell you, I was in for a surprise. I had to write a 15 pg paper on a 19th-century art. I had to describe the subject matter, technical style, visual elements composition, balance, harmony, light, repetition, texture and unity. Lastly, he wants to know your analysis on the painting you did.

Comment:

Prof. Nicoli is very inspirational, considering he is an actual artist teaching an appreciation of art (AOA) class. BUT he speaks about himself too much in lectures and mandates you to be in lecture. In my AOA class we had no tests, quizzes or homework only a 15 page paper due at the end of the semester. So if thats ok with you take him.

In both classes I had with him, Fine Arts and Art History, he lectured heavily about politics and his urgent desire for us to "vote for this country's last vestiges of hope" in classes, in addition to talking about the usual curriculum material. Also could have a short fuse on several occasions.

If you can dedicate 30 minutes to this class per week, you will definitely get a decent grade. He is hard-only if you don't read, or don't study the material. There is a lot of material to memorize, but if you break it down, it's not overwhelming. He has a keen intellect, and his lectures are inspiring. Take him,challenge your self, and be proud.

This is one of my favorites professors at Union County College. He is truly an amazing professor and director. Those who don't know him much (personally) just criticize him based on their experience in class. Still, regardless of how one meets him, one can surely learn so much from him. Anthony Nicoli is an amazing professor, mentor, and friend.

So this cat seems pretty relaxed and cool. Great class,no homework or quizzes. Just that 15 page paper, which challenges me. The thing us that, unless hes telling a interesting story about his experiences overseas, specifically in china or japan, you doze off. Hes not too good with a chalkboard. This guy knows Ai-Weiwei personally

Nicoli is simply fantastic. Well-read and teaches in a profound exhilarating manner. UCC is lucky to have such a gifted professor. Yes, you need to memorize a LOT. The secret? Take good notes and flip through them 5 mins everyday. Some students texted/FB the entire time in class, and well, they will have to repeat the course. Thanks Nicoli! AK

you'll be BORED TO TEARS! he knows his stuff but it's pointless to be in class. you just have to do a 15 pg paper for class. I used to fine art interesting til this class. Plus you'll get tired of him telling you how japan is better than us in every way and how uncultured we are. you'll only need the book for the paper. AGAIN, BORED TO TEARS!

If you want an easy A, DO NOT take this class, especially during the summer. the amount of memorization this course requires would make it challenging even as a full semester course. I got an A but not without HOURS of hard core studying and quite a few panic attacks. but i feel very cultured and intellectual now, totally worth it!

If you don't have a background in drawing do not take his class, it is not basic drawing your basically on your own to figure out how to draw. hes really nice and helpful if you ask and a very fair grader but you wont enjoy drawing if you dont have a background in it already

Great teacher, really knows what he's talking about. Gives two exams, part of it is matching. People complain that the definitions don't match up word for word, but if you really understand what the word means than you'll be able to figure it out! Start studying slides early! There's a lot to remember, but the class is very interesting.
