Comment:

All of his classes were lectures. So you have to be paying attention and be taking good notes. Books are mandatory and you have to read them. He is a really tough grader when it comes to your papers. Test are tough and its always on the littlest details of the books you have to ready. The classes really wasnt bad itself and I enjoyed the class.

If you're able to read you'll get an A. Pay attention, take notes, and read the chapters. Topics of social problems are interesting and relevant so paying attention and reading are not chores. Even if you just find a detailed summary of chapters online you'll still easily get an A if you listened in class. 3-4 hours of reading per test with 3 tests

Comment:

Not my favorite class taken at Rowan AT ALL. Professor Sommo was nice but not very understanding. Lectures were hard to understand and we never finished the chapters in class so we were usually behind. The highest score on all 3 test taken but everyone this semester was a 60- he curves though. I wouldn't recommend taking him.

Comment:

Dr. Sommo is very knowledgeable in regards to sociology, however lectures are so long that we never cover all of the exam chapters in class. Thus, leaving the students responsible to teach themselves 3/4 chapters on their own by reading the text book. Tests are LONG AND HARD! No one gets A's on exams, even when they are curved by a lot.

Sommo is a great guy! Test are hard but if you're willing to work for your grade, you golden! I had him for several classes besides Devaince and always looked for his sections! Make sure you read and do the papers!!!

The worst class I have ever had. Professor is blind so all we do is sit here and listen to him talk about nothing. He gives exams that are over 100 questions each on random things in the book. Does not help you very much and hard to get a good grade in the class let alone pass. Would not suggest taking this professor

Professor Summo is a nice guy. Only thing is his test are IMPOSSIBLEEEEEE to pass. Even after he does a major curve the entire class still fails. He does try to work with you but that still doesn't work out that much. I wouldn't recommend taking him if you aren't a test taker. This class will be your worst nightmare.

Professor Sommo is a great guy who knows his stuff. He is funny at times and really tries to engage with his students. The only assignments he gave are exams which are beyond impossible. He only curves them because without that, everyone would fail. If you are a bad test taker, avoid this class. If you want to be entertained by a nice guy, take it.

I had him for minority groups and it was very difficult! The tests were impossible and I read the book, took notes in class, & studied. He's funny and a nice guy, but I wouldn't recommend him for this class.

He is a great guy. Real old school Italian guy from the neighborhood. He is a bit tough and tests are very detailed, but this is college, what do you expect. Grades on an obscenely huge curve too. Pay attention to the words coming out of his mouth and read the stories he assigns you because they WILL be on the test. If you do this you'll be fine.

He is a great guy, very funny and knowledgable about his field. Always willing to help and takes time at the end of class to take individual questions. Only thing is that his tests are impossible. Just make sure you study, use the study guides, and take good note.

I've had Sommo for the last 2 years and I've never enjoyed sociology more! He is very knowledgable, cares deeply for his students, down to earth and funny as hell! He does give a lot of reading and taking notes is a must to pass tests but he will repeat anything and clarify any questions. Truly an outstanding teacher!

I found this class to be very effienct in being run because he doesnt. Rely on the book because he really knows his stuff. The test are composed of a 100 questions with 50 from book & 50 from lecture. Notes so i suggest you write everything down because you never. Know when you might see it again

Sommo is a cool guy, however, his tests are very difficult! His class is demanding - 2 novels, and about 20 short (17pgs) stories must be read which you will then be tested on. For each story you are required to write a reaction paper - this is also tough.
