He doesn't really give any feedback, is mildly racist and sexist and cannot see very well.

Considering how much we pay to come to this school, Arnie's class was a complete waste. He doesn't actually teach anything, he doesn't care how our films turn our and gives zero helpful feedback. The reason people like him so much is because the class is chill (bc he doesn't care). He also makes lots of really uncomfortable remarks about females.

Arnie is by far the greatest professor I have ever had. He tailors the class to his students. Every day is different and exciting! His passion for filmmaking is undeniable. He is incredibly encouraging and positive, which creates an atmosphere where students feel comfortable pushing themselves and taking creative risks. Take this class!

Arnie created such an amazing environment that I looked forward to going to class week after week. At a school like NYU, there is always this dog eat dog feeling about comparing yourself to other people, however Arnie makes class feel more like a family. His worry is not about grades, but about pushing his students to their max potential.

Arnie has quite a reputation and his love for film and his students is obvious. I would say this class heavily relies on who is in your crew; it's essential that you work together well! He is an easy grader, but I wouldn't suggest this class to someone who doesn't want to genuinely learn about filmmaking and to attempt to expand their creativity.

Well, he's not gonna give you much feedback. I had to figure a lot of stuff out on my own. On the bright side, he's definitely an entertaining guy, just not the best professor out there. It's an easy grade, and you might not learn much about filmmaking, but at least you'll be amused.

Before Baskin's S&S class, I thought I wanted to be a filmmaker;after, I knew. This was all bc of Arnie. He pushes you to be your best, while making you feel comfortable taking risks. He teaches not only how to make movies well, but how to watch movies well. I was visiting from U Chicago but bc of Arnie I may be transferring.(God willing)A delight.

Arnie is a great guy, if not the most instructive teacher. The most important thing to Arnie, however, is a clear narrative. If you prefer to make experimental projects, take someone else (Laszlo?).

He's a fantastic & memorable teacher. Took his intensive film production class in the summer of '92 & still think of him & his class often. We all gained a deep understanding of the elements of film production, theory, planning, storyboarding, sound, composition, editing...absolutely amazing experience. Demands quality work & helps you achieve it.

Arnie is full of wit and hilarious anecdotes that are sure to have the whole class in an uproar. He's smart and since he's been around forever, he really knows what he's talking about. He cares about film, for the sake of being artistic, which is rare these days. He will teach you more about life than any other professor or textbook ever could

Your classmates in Arnie's class will become your family. Prof Baskin's warm, friendly personality allows for a productive and amicable forum for film criticism and brainstorming. Arnie is my favorite professor I've had while at NYU. The only quality which outweighs his wit and charm is his love & knowledge for cinema. Don't miss this opportunity.

If you are lucky enough to land in Professor Baskin's Sight and Sound Film Class you better hang on to every piece of instruction and advice the best professor at Tisch has to offer. He is insightful, beyond patient and provides a wealth of knowledge that true cinephiles will not be able to pass up. Don't believe me, ask any of his famous alum.

Arnie is an excellent teacher. His tangents and fables hold deep insights into filmmaking, narrative style and life in general. He is the best teacher I've had at Tisch. His classes are always full of funny stories and thought provoking critiques of films. His lessons focus on use of cinematography, and complex storytelling structures. Go Baskin!!

Lectures consist of Arnie nonsensically waving a laser pointer at the screen. And then he'll tell you a series of shockingly politically incorrect anecdotes. And then you'll leave 2 hours before the class is scheduled to end. It's a special time.

Arnie is definitely down to earth. Take his class and let go of pretentious professors...NYU has plenty of them anyway. His train of thought bounces from blow up dolls, to Jackie Chan, and pickles in a woman's cleavage. TAKE HIM

Highly recommended! Lenient, entertaining, and knowledgeable. Let's students experiment, make mistakes, and explore. Easy grader. If you want a pretentious professor who spends hours on film critiques - look elsewhere. If you want a down to earth professor who truly cares about students take Baskin!

If you buy into the idea that filmmaking can't be taught, then take Arnie because he doesn't really teach (although he does lecture on the barebones and basics). He really let's you do want you want and let's you makes mistakes. He will tell you if it works or doesn't but it's really up to the class to give feedback so you can learn from mistakes
