Comment:

Schmidt's "World Economy since 1945" was quite challenging but I definitely learned a lot in it . The final exam was very difficult but the questions were great because he asked you to explain the U.S. financial crisis and relate it to the course material. I wouldn't take him again but he was a great professor, without a doubt.

Comment:

Very challenging professor. I took his History of the World Economy class and was pleased with what I was taught. He introduces new things every class and all of it is pertinent to history and present. He loves graphs and statistics, which can get repetitive. Very approachable and nice guy outside of class. I would recommend highly to anyone.

Perhaps because I had an initial high interest in the course material, I found professor Schmidt's class quite interesting. While his course is dominated by lecture, he presents an array of perspectives. I had to write an 20 page research paper for his class, and he was immensely helpful. He's on your side as long as you make the effort.

Very nice guy, but also very dull. He assigns a substantial amount of reading for each class and I found his grading to be very harsh.

I quite liked Schmidt. He knew his stuff, and his class was challenging but educational (which is the way things are supposed to be). He was always very open and approachable, and he definitely has a sense of humor.

Prof Schmidt is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. He is quite challenging, but you pay for college so you can learn, and he will do everything possible to help you learn. He is interested in students beyond their performance in his class. He is very approachable and he explains things well.

Comment:

Professor Schmidt is one of the most decent human beings I have ever met. He was the best professor I have had at Temple. He takes an interest in his students beyong what's going on in his classroom. He encouraged me with my other courses and cared about my future success.

There is a lot of reading for this class, but the amount decreases when you have a paper due. I appreciated that since most professors don't really consider the effects of big assignments on your schedule. Even though I didn't have too much interaction with him, when I did he made a point to ask how my other classes were going, which was nice.

Schmidt knows his stuff, but he definitely has "teacher's pets" and can be extremely boring. You MUST participate otherwise you will be SEVERELY penalized in your grade. He can be distant, but t nounapproachable. Schmidt is a nice guy, just very boring and has favorites. If you want to succeed in his class, make sure you are one of them!

This teacher knows his stuff, and is a pretty cool guy, but the amount of reading that he assigns you is absolutely ridiculous. I recommend that you take his courses if you are ONLY taking like one or two other courses. The work load is outrageous. There was also six different text books for this course, so if you're broke don't take him.

Didn't list attendance as a grading criteria in the syllabus, but used it anyway. Tons of reading - books, articles -most incomprehensible. Take home midterm and he gives the questions for the in-class final beforehand. Three easy papers. Could be interesting, but just wasn't. Took two classes: California Dreams, California Nightmares and Revolutionary Mexico. The former was the better of the two but both were very interesting. He knows his stuff. He is very fair with students- though sometimes maybe too forgiving. He can be a bit distant but is friendly and helpful if you have to ask questions or need to rewrite assignm

I've had him for two classes now... nice guy, just a little misguided when it comes to keeping everyone in class awake. Don't expect an easy A, the grade is mainly based on 3 papers and he grades them thoroughly. It's hard to skip, also, because he has a one-pager due every class. He's definitely crafty.

I get more and more tired with every class. Seems nice, knows his stuff, but lectures for three hours straight and expects a lot of work (weekly reading, weekly assignments, three papers). I certainly got more than I bargained for.
