Professor Osanloo is amazing as a seminar teacher! She loves to hear from everyone but won't make you speak if you don't want to. She truly cares about what she teaches and her students - offered lots of extra help outside class. She is amazing! The class had a lot of reading, 2 sizeable papers and weekly blog posts, no exams.

I really loved her class! I took LSJ 321 expecting to not enjoy it but she made it really interesting. Professor Osanloo was really helpful in office hours and you could tell she really cared about what she was teaching and her students. She gave me great advice on going to law school as well

A lot of these comments are outdated and quite inaccurate. You should give this professor a chance! The enthusiasm and knowledge the professor provides makes you engaged. In other human rights classes the instructor can be very robotic and mono toned leading to inattentive and disengaged students, but professor Osanloo is quite the opposite.

Great professor, the class was fantastic but the content was a little disorganized. The grading is pretty straightforward for the three essays, and overall course load was decent.

overly ambitious, anal retentive, disorganized, slop of a class. but hey, for the reading assigned at least you get a medal when you pass... oh wait, nope... still just the same 5 units as every other 3oo level course. huh... must think she's special. oh, and she's a relativist(in case you were wondering when she starts raving about its legitimacy)

Arzoo is a fantastic professor. Very passionate about the topic, which makes for delightful, engaging class time. I found her to be a very fair grader, and always helpful with her students during office hours, through email or after class. Highly recommended.

Although the topics and readings are quite interesting, lectures can be fairly disorganized and frequently don't connect to readings. Grades are based off three papers; each covers several different aspects of human rights, international law, etc. which can be challenging to fit into 5-7 pgs. Section very helpful for clarifying confusing points.

Took her seminar on Refugee Law - highly recommended. Leads discussion very well (always respectful and generally insightful with responses) and her few lecture-ish interludes were useful. Surprisingly funny after a few weeks, very helpful in office hours. Grade comes from discussion and papers - which were easily managed. Office hours help a lot.

Absolutely horrible! Disorganized, rambles and goes off on useless tangents, clearly doesn't care about her students. My level of interest in the subject of human rights was far greater before I took the class than after.

I was really excited for this class because it looked very interesting but her lectures were very hard to follow. The TA I had was also awful. She was 10+ minutes late every section. I think this says a lot on the ability Osanloo had to pick an effective TA. Also Osanloo was gone for a week. Very disappointing.

She rambles on about everything except what is important to the class. I learned nothing more than what I knew going into the class. I do not agree with her style of teaching. If you take this class, make sure you address issues beforehand because quote Osanloo, "after this quarter, you guys are not my priority so if you need something, oh well".

Human Rights class. Entertaining and exciting lectures, quiz section dependent on TA. Overall, it was a great class that made me start thinking about Human Rights in a different way.

TERRIBLE! I don't know what class everyone below me took. She is passionate, but so unorganized. Lectures were just her rambling and reading quotes. Also, a 700 page course pack + online readings is not a normal amount of work. Could have been so interesting, but I felt like I learned absolutely nothing.

She teaches with passion and expertise. She does not try to exhaust the topics of genocide, ethnic cleansing, etc,(as mentioned below), but rather offers an introduction to these topics and examines how they have been used to label different events around the world. The case studies are challenging but very doable and dare I say a little fun!

An authentic academic who is not only a leading authority in her field, but also an excellent teacher. Her experience as a lawyer came through in the class. She was very helpful in office hours and didn't mind spending extra time to make sure that i understood the theories and concepts. By far one of the most inspiring teachers i've had at UW.

Prof. Osanloo's classes are all absolutely fantastic. The material is engaging and relevant to current issues. You take what you make from her classes- either you can sit there and breeze by superficially, or you can use it as a launching pad to explore issues deeper. If you approach her she will gladly help you expand your knowledge on any topic

Arzoo wants you to cover about 5 different subjects in each memo she assigns...in depth and comprehensively. I did this superficially for a good grade. However, in a more substantive class, 7 pages covering genocide, humanitarian intervention, labor laws, indigenous peoples rights and methods of enforcement, is a disgrace to these topics.
