Comment:
Fair grader. You actually have to put effort into your writing to get a good grade. She's soft spoken, approachable, nice, and really makes you think. Review of essays in class is very helpful, if you actually take notes. Use your notes from class to write your essays so that they contain exactly the content she wants them to, and you'll get an A.

She offers to help anyone who is struggling with her course but her comments and suggestions aren't very clear or helpful. Avoid this class if possible.

While Barb herself is a sweet woman, she isn't exactly the easiest grader or clearest prof... I HIGHLY suggest meeting with her during office hours and change your paper HOWEVER she tells you. Grades you for how well you follow her directions. Often comments how she expects NO ONE to receive an A in the course....

Do not under any circumstances take English Composition with her. Grading is entirely subjective. One small error in a paper will earn you a C on it. Will make suggestions only to go back on them and put you at fault. You will not know your grade until you see it on your transcript. Class discussions are ridiculous and useless. Avoid at all costs!

DONT EVER TAKE THIS CLASS. worse teacher i've ever had. I've gotten A's on all my other higher-level college writing courses and am struggling with this class. Very unfair and subjective grader. Makes you jump through hoops for no reason and can never improve your grade. You won't even know you're grade until on your transcript on the end.

She'll guide you and advise you on your story, but she won't force anything on you. In fact, the second short story had no prompt, just "write a story." Lectures are nice but can be jumbled (she hadn't taught this class in a long time). Take her if you have an interest in writing but are just starting out.

At first I was dreading Professor Mellix. But I ended up liking her. Class discussions are somewhat interesting. All papers discussed in class are anonymous and only used to help you improve your writing. May be harsh at times but only because that's what helps you become a great writer. Will help if you ask for it. Overall, I think she was great!

Avoid at all costs for Seminar in Composition! Seems nice enough at first with laid back class discussions, but once you get into writing formal papers, she gets just mean. She only likes a certain kind of writing that presents the same opinions she has. She is not at all helpful one-on-one, but rather hurtful.

Seems nice at first, laid back discussions, but if you thought you were a pretty ok writer, a few AP English courses under your belt and think Comp will be no sweat, you're wrong. That first paper brings a new side of her, nothing but rude, not helpful and flat-out mean, comments. Wait until she rips apart your paper in front of the entire class.

Classes are laid back and always discussions. Sometimes unclear in her head- which makes her unclear when speaking. Late papers are ok- but not too often. Flexible and helpful if you ask for it. Overall- not too shabby!
