Easily the best professor I've had for English. Instead of nitpicking every little grammatical and spelling error in a paper, he focuses heavily on the structure and strength of arguments, which made my writing way more proficient. Had an amazing grade structure that made a ton of little assignments add up, which means I was never stressed.

Hands down the best prof I've ever had! He's super funny and always made class enjoyable. I wasn't looking forward to this class, but it ended up being my favourite one all semester.

To be honest, Bart is one of the best profs around at UofC. Hes so funny and often cracks jokes in class while also being a lowkey gamer. Would strongly recommend to anyone needing to take English (Thank me Later).

Regarding his papers: He gives you a length limit. Feel free to write a longer paper than this limit if you have something interesting to say! He will not punish you for going over length and he HEAVILY rewards people for saying something insightful and interesting. Use the extra space. Say something clever. Back up arguments. Get an A+.

Bart is a great prof for 201, the work load is light compared to most other profs and he makes classes very enjoyable. I would recommend his course to anyone looking for a junior english course you won't regret it.

I have never had a prof that was so into himself. He doesn't care for his students, he just "teaches" a course to talk about himself, not the content he assigns. He never responds to emails and he was disorganized throughout the semester. His guidelines were unclear and he keep changing and mind constantly about what he wants us to do.

I don't doubt that Beaty isn't a knowledgeable dude, he's passionate for what he's teaching but he doesn't care about his students whatsoever. He even claimed himself that those who did not attend his lectures would've probably done better on the midterm. The final exam had absolutely NOTHING to do with what he taught or any of his assignments.

Dr. Beaty seems a little full of himself at times, but his passion for comics is admirable. I really got into the material and genuinely enjoyed his class. Most of the comics were interesting. Easy tests, but the assignments are marked much tougher.

Dr. Beaty is a prof that you will either like him, or not you wont. Don't think comicseasy. He doesn't have set lectures, good notes. I found him very approachable, you just have to actually ask him. If you can back up your answers or theories for tests or papers, and don't over think, you'll be good. I enjoyed him, but he's not for everyone.

In a 75 minute class he spends at least 30 minutes talking about himself and his petty accomplishments. He is very open about the fact that he is tenured and no longer cares about student feedback. Has absolutely no respect for his students and no interest in their success. Vain and obnoxious. The worst prof I've ever had.

joke of a professor... brags about his books, which are less than special.. mostly about how he's wasted his life reading archie comics.. he offers no guidelines or help and has no structure to his lectures.. avoid this fat mess at all costs.. received grades from A's to D's..

Great class, great prof. The guy is an expert and the lectures are funny and entertaining. Tells lots of stories, which are fun and relevant. Textbooks are all comics, only took me roughly an hour each to read most of them. Assignments are simple, essay assignment was only 2000 words. Tests are tricky though, must attend class to pass them.

Great Proff! I didn't have any interest in comics before this class (I hate super heroes) but i really loved the focus on the art of comics in this class. If you have a hard time understanding art and how it can convey meaning you are going to have a bad time. My background in graffiti helped me a lot in this class.

Don't ignore the reviews that tell you the grading scheme is inconsistent. In my entire 5 year degree, this is the only class I regret taking. Unless you have a prior deep passion for comics, it's nearly impossible to do well. Regardless of how much I studied or effort I put into it, it was nearly impossible to do well. Very, very inconsistent.

This class was very interesting at first, however, the grading scheme is not consistent. Putting in the same amount of work for each assignment and exam, I received varied marks ranging from B- to failing. This prof was inconsistent and it was very frustrating.

Interesting guy, but his organization needs improvement. Classes were structured incredibly poorly and it seemed a bit unfair because he marked the midterm quite hard. Overall interesting guy, cool course, but the way it is taught and assessed needs a lot of work and Beaty, though he is a cool guy, definitely needs to re-think his teaching style

This class was easy as long as you went to class and listened, although he can get pretty off topic. If you know about comics before hand its probably a cake walk but I had no clue and did just fine. Tests are on exactly what you cover in class.

Bart Beaty is a really entertaining professor. Before taking this class had very little knowledge or interest in comics but I learned a lot in the space of a semester. Lectures would occasionally go off topic but they were always interesting, funny or a combination of the two.

I took the comics course with Bart, and he made it pretty interesting. However, if you don't have any background knowledge in comic books, you won't get a very good grade. He's a hard marker, and his exams are pretty ridiculous. Awesome guy, mediocre professor.

Beaty is an amazing guy and an amazing prof (the dean no less too!). I would battle any level of sickness just to attend his engaging and hilarious lectures. Taking a comic book course with a prof that makes his living studying comics is just a treat for any fan. A high recommendation to ANY course he teaches. Watch out for his exams though!
