Thurber was the professor who made the greatest impact on me at USD- easily one of the most intelligent people on campus, but treats students respectfully and as though their ideas are just as important. Like adults not children. His classes are conceptually difficult as they are upper division, but he always will take office hours to help you

i absolutely hated poetry before taking this class, but this professor makes it easy to understand the text. very interesting unpredictable class. open book tests-take notes in your book. if you listen to him exactly, you'll get an A

Fun and funny prof. Class is a bit hard. If you merely DO everything, you'll get at least a B. Pretty hard to get a A, but class is completely fair and doable. Bring the book everyday!!! Just a midterm, and a take-home final which are both fair and don't take too long. Super funny man!

thats funny i got an A.hes different and very literal but it will do you good if youre an english major. i loved him and hes very helpful and nice and he does have a unique teaching style but you learn alot and you will def strengthen your textual interpretation skills

He has a very abstract way of teaching. You will either love it or hate it. I personally hated it. He never gives A's. If you work your butt off and try really hard, you might get a B+. If you dont pay attention you will get a B. Easy class to pass but not to get an A. Im a straight A student and I got a B.

class is easy- just show up, participate and take notes in your book. there are only 2 tests which are open book and a midterm paper. great professor, really engaged in his students. however his grading is messed up. he gives out checks and check-pluses so you never know what your grade is.

A wondeful prof! No homework which is nice, but class discussions are intense, but he makes you think...very rewarding, students are challenged but in a good way! one of the best decisions i made was by taking him! im not an english major, so the class was challenging, but by far a wonderful experience! there were only 2 exams and a paper

I've only had him for half a semester so far and he is a great teacher. I wish that I could find out what my grade is in the class because he only gives check minus, check, and check plus. Take this class if you hate poetry! It will change your perspective of poetry.

This professor thinks he is so cool. He gives checks and checks minuses, never lets you know how you are doing in the class, and in the end destroys your GPA. I would watch out if you care about your grades. I e-mailed him regarding my paper and the final exam..he completely ignored me. Jerk.

loved this class! he's such an amazing teacher. there's virtually no hw, and you only turn it in if you want to. The class is based off class discussion with him asking thought provoking questions, trying to get you to the heart of the works. you do have to WORK in this class. He's not easy, but he's fair. He does give A's, but you have to EARN it
