Comment:

Funny professor and solid guy. Makes jokes a lot of people won't get. Pretty tough class. He has a passion for finance and has a wealth of knowledge. You need to know finance before beginning this course. He seems to expect a higher level of understanding than what many enter INV 1 with. Very bright guy and able to answer any finance questions.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Tests do not match any of the material he taught in class. He throws major curve questions on the test that no one has any idea of. He is one of the worst professors in the finance department and does nothing but hurts students grades. I would NOT recommend taking this awful awful awful AWFUL man!!!

WORST TEACHER EVER! Does not teach or even use a book. All he does is talk about some personal stories as he sloppily writes some words on the smart board. He doesn't care about his students or their grades. He puts a massive (15-20 points) curve on his test, and around 60% get either a C or D. He doesn't give F's or I'm sure there would be a lot!

Beaves is the worst kind of professor. I couldn't tell you one thing I learned in Investments. He rambles about some finance related information then goes off on some unrelated story. Test questions are the most smallest details that he never mentioned in class. Instead of studying, spend your time praying that your guessing skills are excellent.

Beaves is my favorite professor at RMU by far. I had him for INV 1 and R&EP. Both helped immensely with my field and were interesting to learn about. He shares tons of great stories on life, and working in lawfinancial industry. Do not need book, lectures from notes. Exams are MC & TF. Put in the effort and go to class to succeed.

It was a simple intro level investments 1 class and I thought it would be nice to take as a business elective. The class was awful. I learned nothing, the book means nothing, he expects you to know what he is talking about even though you probably have little previous knowledge, abbreviates everything on the board and only grades are 3 tests.

Great professor. Not very easy, but he teaches from experience, not from the book. Tests are straight from the class notes. He curves grades. Very knowledgeable and a really good investments or estate planning teacher. Took him for both.

Took Beaves for Investment Analysis I. He has a lot of real world experience and gives examples of things he's lecturing about. Tests straight from class notes. You need to UNDERSTAND the examples for tests because he makes them tricky. Doesn't use the textbook. Curves the test. I took him again for Retirement and Estate Planning.

Great guy. Expects you to keep up and teach yourself a bit. Difficult subject but generous curve makes it hard to do poorly if you prepare. Made me like finance. Went out of my way to take him for Investments next semester.

I had him for Investment Analysis and I would take him again. Although he is extremely tough and your only grade is through your tests. The problem I ran into was that I suck with tests to startoff with and he is very unclear about what is going to be covered besides what he talks about which is 4 weeks worth of material and he def. packs it in.

Horrible teacher! Avoid him if you can! He doesn't teach you anything even though it might appear that he knows what he's talking about. The only good thing is that you don't have to show up for class and he grades the 3 HUGE tests he gives you on a curve. Don't take him if you plan on learning anything!

Beaves knows what he is talking about. He practices what he preaches in the real world, so he is able to relate theory to practice easily. Material is difficult, but he makes it bearable - tests are VERY hard, but they are graded on a curve. If Finance is required for you, you won't find anyone better than him.

I can't say enough good about him. I'm a finance major and his classes are the only one's that don't bore me to death. He's interesting, helpful, and very knowledgable. He only covers whats on the test. Tests can be a little difficult, but everything is curved. I BARELY studied and got an 89%. No homework, no projects, no attendance policy.Awesome
