Comment:
Ben's great, but I think he does better with a smaller class because this one only a few people would speak, and then the rest was just lecture. It's pretty easy to get away with not doing the reading, but he's a tough grader on papers, so at least read the thing you're writing about

Professor Slote is such a caring professor. I've seen him give many students who did not care a less many chances. He wants everyone to succeed, and gives great feedback on essays. He is always available to talk about essays, ideas, or about questions in general. He notices students who are quiet but thoughtful, and inspires them. He's amazing

One of the greatest professors, actually educators, I have ever had. He really does care about what is teaching, and more importantly, who he is teaching it to. He gives TIME in class for questions, brainstorming, and critique. He is absolutely a wonderful person and one of the best teachers on campus!

Professor Slote is a great guy. However, I hated his American Lit class. Nothing against him, but English+History just really isn't my thing. Overall, I guess he grades pretty easily, because I hardly did any work in that class and got a C+.

A nice guy, but can't teach at all. I read the comments saying he was a good prof, yet every class was terrible (incredibly boring). Also he is a harsh grader and doesn't go to all his office hours.

Very interesting, thought-provoking class. However, Slote grades everyone like they are going to be English majors. Make sure you participate in class and spend lots of time on the papers, and you should be fine.

He is very intelligent and knows English very well. It can be hard to depict a phrase right down to the word. Word choice is important.

Don't take him for 200.. it's a prerequisite but he treats it like you're all english majors. He's a harsh grader and expects a lot even if you do not know much about english. He grades impossibly on participation but you do learn a lot.

He's a nice guy, but there isn't much else to say about him. I'm surprised he was the head of the department because everyone else comes across as a lot more educated. Take it for the grade, but not for the experience or knowledge.

He's interesting...the class is basically just one discussion....and he talks a lot...and you're not really sure if what you are saying is correct because sometimes instead of giving you feedback he will just look at you funny. But he's a great guy!
