Comment:
Professor Barickman is a brilliant professor and he explains the subject extremely well. It was easy to follow along and his TA was also very helpful. There are a lot of readings and he does expect a lot of participation, but it's fun participation and interactive. Take the course if you're interested in the history of racism in general. Good stuff

Professor Barickman knows the subject well. He is unorthodox in his teaching method, but gets his point across. This class is not easy, however, if you go to class and do the readings you will do well. If you don't, you will fail. Unannounced quizzes, 2 research papers 7-10 pages each, and a take home final about the same.

By far one of the BEST professors out there! This guy knows his stuff well!! The class is not easy, but as long as you attend class and do the readings (which are not very long at all..about 10 -20 pages a week) you are almost guaranteed an easy A. He is very helpful and a student friendly. GREAT PROFESSOR.

Everyone expects every INDV to be super easy when in reality they are not. As long as you did the readings and assignments then this class is an A. Especially if you participate in class. Also I only went through the readings once and got an A. Everyone else failed because they didn't bother to read any of the material.

Do NOT take this class. This class was ridiculous, his syllabus was practically 30 pages long of nonsense. He just loves to hear himself talk Also he is very hard to understand, doesn't use power points. He just uses a paper with names listed not in any order he will randomly point at. Homework assignments are LONG and time consuming.

The number of readings is unfair for a INDV103. Only take this class if you are prepared for it to be your main focus for the semester. The teacher is unprofessional, unclear, and rude.

Tons of readings. Word of warning, be prepared to pay a lot of money for copied articles that could be placed on D2L. Boring speaker, I've had much more exciting teachers. However, he does prompt good discussions. So be prepared to spend a lot of money, read, write long papers, and participate in class.

Dr. Barickman is tough no doubt, but he is not mean and if your class participates then there is no problem. If like most UA students you have something against reading then avoid this class because you will fail. Same goes for an inability to write or follow directions.

BORING!! This professor is very boring, however, he is extremely smart and the information is interesting. A lot of homework and reading. Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy Gen ED.

The readings can be extensive, but very informative. The lectures feed you exactly what you need to know for the class, with only minor things needed from the readings. If you do the readings (which are quite long) then the class is easy.

Teacher is a little quirky, but otherwise very straightforward in his expectations of you as a class. Definitely not a class for students who don't expect to do readings and show up to lecture. I found the class fascinating and pretty easy to do well in. If you read the text and follow the syllabus, it is a very rewarding class.

okay, for all you who think he is the worst teacher ever, how many days did you actually attend? it's probably the most straightforward and easy to understand. I lost my textbook and still aced the final...its called common sense.

Stay away from this teacher! His lectures are confusing and unorganized. His syllabus was like 20 pages long and way too complicated and confusing. Threw a tantrum and stormed out of class and then threatened he was going to lower our grades. He is completely inappropriate, unprofessional, & one of the worst teachers i have ever had. STAY AWAY

I did not understand the grading in this class. I did not feel that he graded as harshly as the syllabus suggested. Interesting class, crazy teacher. He knows his material and presents it in a fantastic manner, but as someone mentioned stormed out of class one day when we did not provide sufficient discussion for his lecture. A little crazy.

Smart guy but a real jerk. Threw a temper tantrum and walked out on class and then treated us like children. The class work itself was normal for a 300 level history class. Participation is key as well.

Very intimidating with scarily long syllabus and instructions for papers. He is very knowledgable and stresses critical thinking. Serious students will get something out of the class. Do NOT take if you can't read the syllabus, participate in class or write papers. Will walk out if no one participates and blame the entire class for being unprepared
