He is a really cool old guy, he kind of rambles on about stuff, but it's still a fun class to be in. if you go over material before tests they should be fine, but they are all writing except for the final, which is part multiple choice.

I must say that I have not had a better teacher at the collegiate level than Burt Helm. Not only is he brilliant, but he offers supplementary information that directly relates to the class. He is witty, and funny, and you will learn more from his class than any other. His tests are hard, but if you study and keep up with the work, its all good.

I didn't like him at all. He knows what he's talking about, he's a very smart man but treats you like you're dumb. I tried to go to him for help and he was no help at all. I would never take him again or recommend anyone else to take him.

What a great teacher! After all those comments I was reallys scared to go in and take the class but I really did learn a lot. Show up and listen to him and he has a lot of stuff to teach you! He is a little dry at times but he's got a good sense of humor and really knows what he is talking about!

Modern Phi is a pretty dry and difficult subject anyway, but Helm doesn't help a lot. He's brilliant, and a good guy.. but his lectures do not highlight anything the tests are over, and there is virtually no discussion. We had no idea what to study for on the tests; there was just several hundred pages of dense Phi material to sort through.

Treated students like they were dumber than rocks. Very smart smart man, just hard to understand. THe class being at 8am also didn't help much. It's hard to think at that time, much less critically think!

Just don't take him! He's nice but if you need help you wont be able to understand him. I didn't learn anything from him, just had to read the book. In class, I read the book or the newspaper...I left early alot. It was boring because you cannot understand anything he says.

He is extremely boring. Don't bother taking notes; they won't help. His tests are too long to finish during classtime, but they are easy if you read the reviews at the end of the chapters. His final is ridiculously hard.

What an elitist this man is! I hate teachers that look down upon their students like Helm frequently does. Someone needs to remind these professors that we are the boss. We hire them to teach us, and they need to consider it an honor and not insult the very people that puts them to work in the first place.

I am a very good student and I hate failing. But this teacher is impossible. He means good and he tries but his tests are very subjective and hard. Do not take him for this class it will take up your life and you will remember nothing from it of importance.
