Horrendous. Instructions are very unclear, and material on the test or assignments will not be covered in class or in the book. Very absentminded professor who moves very slowly but somehow lacks any clarity whatsoever.

Comment:

Do NOT listen to what anybody has to say here. Dr. Gocal is one of the most lovely, caring women I have ever met. She is very helpful, but only if you put forth some effort and ask her questions if you don't understand something. Always extends deadlines and gives retests/bonus work. She is now my advisor. I would definitely recommend her!

Such a nice woman but not so good at teaching people who have no background in programming at all.. If you're not too confident with your programming skills or have never taken a programming class, don't take her!!!!! I got a B in the class but I really worked my butt off. Still don't really know what I learned...

DO NOT TAKE HER! There's no doubt she's very intelligent, but as far as teaching goes you will learn more from teaching yourself The only way you can possibly pass this class is if you have any prior knowledge of programming. She will spend 20 min not saying a word trying to fix her own mistakes and then expects you to know what to do. STAY AWAY!

Intelligent professor. Does not tolerate ignorance, or laziness but is extremely helpful if you are willing to, and capable of grasping the material. Expects students to do work out of the class room and teach themselves. Anyone Ive spoken to that dislikes her teaching expects to be spoonfed solutions and handed a high grade without earning it

Dr. Gocal has good intentions, but does not follow through with coherent, intelligible instruction. If I had any background in C++, that would be a different story, but the majority of my class and myself were lost for a large part of the semester. Gives quizes & tests on material never covered. Only plus, you can retake quizes/tests & extra credit

Dr. Gocal has a bad rap for some reason. Perhaps she used to be a hard and unreasonable professor, but by the end of my first semester, I had not only learned a lot from her, but had also warmed up to her. She really does care and want to help her students, if they want to help themselves.

Easy class if you know anything about C++. If not then I wouldn't recommend taking her as your first computer programming teacher because she doesn't teach very well. She tries to explain things but she is very confusing sometimes. If you don't understand something she does her best to explain it. Not the worst professor but not very good either.

She's really nice and will try to help everyone in the class. That being said; the lectures and the assignments don't match up. The entire class will be struggling with the homework assignment (because she never teaches us how to do them), and she'll spend all class teaching us about something we don't even end up using. She's nice; but confusing.

Students constantly corrected her in class. She put C++ code up and it would be incorrect. Was the most miserable and confusing class I've ever taken. Don't take it unless you already know C++.

I would not recommend her class to anyone. She confused herself and her class on a regular basis. It doesn't seem like she is familiar with computers at all. However, if you do the work and go to class you will get an A. Easy class, but you'll be miserable the entire time.

Gocal is most likely the worst professor i have had so far. She does not explain anything, she confuses herself and us. She is rude, mean, and just plain nasty. She swears at her students, calls them down right liars. Do not take gocal for any class at SRU.She makes students want to switch majors and makes you feel very stupid.

She doesn't teach well, if i ask her to explain something she just confuses me more, and so far through this semester i've had to teach myself everything. half the class dropped and the other half is failing, except for those who have had c++ before. just don't take her.

She is getting observed as I speak. She has been monotone and boring for 13 weeks now. Shes all chipper and putting on a show. Horrible professor. THE WORST EVER. Do not take her class.
