The best teacher I've ever had. I took four classes taught by him and would take more if I had the opportunity. He's not just a guy who teaches english classes. He's a writer who teaches writing. He knows what he's talking about.

If you are really into creative writing and the genre is important to you, this is NOT a class to take. Everyone got an "A", so nothing was learned. This may sound like a good thing, but really, if you want to come out of 4 months of school having learned anything, run away from him. Fast.

This guy is AMAZING. He makes class fun and interesting. As a computer science major I never thought that I could have this much fun in an English class. He inspired me to continue with my writing and to develop it more. These are the kind of teachers the CS department needs. Great guy.

Professor Luvaas is a really nice person; I always enjoyed going to class. The readings were interesting, but the journals got tiresome. I wish we had had more in-class discussion about the stories, and less "presentations" by students. I was disappointed in the amount of original writing required.

Be prepared to read 2 or 3 short stories a week and keep a journal on every story. He loves analyzing these works. He has a lot of great ideas to help you reshape your work, but he doesn't really teach technique ... he instead uses the reading to show you how it is done. Kind of like learning alone

I had him for Comp Lit 270B. Really nice guy. You read a book a week and just write for about 10 min about it. One test (the final) which was easy. Takes attendence, but he makes it worthwhile.

Hes very fun to listen to. i didnt mind going to the class. he does take attendence. only one final all year. no quizzes or tests. lots of reading, but could totally pull it off my sparknotes. i didnt even buy one book. he has lots of cool stories
